In particular the cinematics, just look at the characters in those cinematics. None of them look like real humans, their proportions are all distorted like they have some weird growth all over their body. That's just due to age though. The thing is when Diablo goes 3D it has to make some sacrifices. Yes the 2.5D is really awesome and allows for really high quality sprites, it's just not any good for the level of depth video games have now, with advanced lighting, physics, etc. So the conversion to 3D was necessary. In terms of the art style, they seem to have gone with a dark gothic fantasy style, sort of like some Alice in Wonderland artwork, those kinds of things. Since Diablo is a dark gothic fantasy series... The style fits. You know if I had my way Diablo 2 & 3 would still be like Diablo 1 where you had to walk everywhere and it was more realism with some fantasy elements rather than just plain fantasy. Either way i'm sure both will be great games in their own respective ways, I just hope Path of Exile gets to the public long before Diablo 3 (shouldn't be to god awful difficult) and has a chance to really turn heads and gain a following. But things change. I love you Anyways, for me PoE wins for 2 reasons. First, the skill system and second it's an indie game. Posting a D3 vs PoE question seems like nothing but trying to encourage nerd-rage arguments. Still, I'll bite. I can't wait for D3. I don't think it looks cartoony at all, it looks a little like WoW but... it's from the same developer.. so, suprise? It's the same thing people say against FO3, it looks like Oblivion with guns, well, was made by the same people so... are we supposed to be shocked that they resemble each other? Another "big" complaint people seem to have against D3 is that it is "simplifying" the game to much. Well, D2 wasn't exactly a cerebral taxing game. The hardest difficulty can be beat by a naked fishymancer. True, you can make it difficult by trying to min/max a toon to death in order to beat Uber tristram... but the majority of the player base doesn't care about that at all. Now for POE PoE has an attractive leveling system and it seems like the developers genuinely care about what the player base wants. Those two facts alone are enough to peek my interest in the game. Will PoE be a D3 killer? No. Will it be a great game? Most likely. Which will I play more? Hard to say as neither has been released, raise this question again in a year. Do I like asking questions to myself? obviously. I was and am a huge diablo fan, i do wish they stuck with torchlight mode, and i wish they would keep the old pvp system. Dunno why they added the duel arena and are they even going to add death penalties? I dunno i will deff try both, but i do like death penalties, and i do like pking, and i like the torch light aspect of diablo 1 and 2.
