I think they're laughing behind the scenes.

I will not bother playing maps again until they return the rare/boss icons.

So incredibly stupid to remove it.

Let me guess, you also want to campaign maps marked for "objections", or better fixed layout and 40% MS boots or qiucksilver flask from the first quest? Or even better button to skip campaign? Or even better button to skip the map and just drop the loot in your HO?
To op im sure this was intentional change in between the lines to test the reactions which was obvious will turn out as they are now. Theres now way the guy testing new mechanics before this release didnt saw no rare mob indicators on map. I believe they saw it perfectly and knew it was there because it was added intentionally and not a bug. The philosophy of this development is one guy smiling at camera telling how they shortened the marathon and then when it starts they shoot you in the leg. You give with one hand and take same with other
This is what happens when you pander to a crying mob.
Providing the players with what is essentially a maphack should've never been done in the first place, so this 'response' was to be anticipated.

Then again, if you're someone who thinks they need this in order to play the game, or clear maps, then you're precisely the reason for why there is no rhyme, nor reason to this endgame.
Sit down and be quiet.

I sure am laughing, especially at things like "It feels like there are two people with opposing ideas designing this game." no shit this is basically what the PoE2 community is, this patch is a reflection of it, it's you guys fault for asking things you have no clue about.

This is not the reflection of the developers you think it is, instead it is of the audience(s).

There are distinctly different player types for games like this and it's a balancing act to try and cater to them.

We are the problem, ultimately, that the developers are trying to solve.

Problem is, they shouldn't try

To be more precise:

I am an old school arpg player, I am used to running around, clearing maps fast and dying if my level and gear are inadequate.

Fast pace, run and gun.

This game was supposed to offer something else. Slowet and methodical game.

This id why I bought it, I saw an alternative to the "No rest for the wicked" from a dev more known in the genre, set in a game world that I at the time couldnt get into (My head hurt from trying POE1).

POE2 being either is fine for me. It being zoomey is fine. I LIKE that.

However I originally got interested for slower paced game, so I am fine with that as well.

What I am not fine with is a mix. Tons of ground degen, fast mobs and me being slow.

They need to pick side and alienate the other one, or they wont have a game

What a ridiculous statement.

Nobody here chose to not have movement speed mandatory on boots. Nobody here neglected whirling assault thus making it worthless since release.
Nobody here chose to have:
Lightning mage
Lightning huntress
Lightning ranger
be the flavor of the patch(s). This is their game.

If you eat an entire tub of ice cream, do you blame the spoon?

Yep
I see it differently. Simply ‘working through’ rare mob icons was extremely boring. Now there are proper map bosses, and some of the powerful bosses are now extremely strong. I'm also getting very good loot now. The patch is extremely good

I honestly see why Wilson left now. These ideas are far from making the game fun. The more time spent crafting maps and storing trash for tablet crafting, the less a player is going to like this game.

Right now the atlas is useless. It's a mode you craft.
how are there some people in this thread that are so delusional that they think no markers for the rares is a good thing, nobody enjoys the endgame, making it take even longer is even worse, you one shot everything so you spend more time walking from point a to b than actually doing something.
