I think they're laughing behind the scenes.

Yea this is silly. Maps smaller but now we have to search every nook and cranny for rares and "extra content". I don't know who this is at GGG who thinks tedium = fun gameplay loop.
I will not bother playing maps again until they return the rare/boss icons.

So incredibly stupid to remove it.

I don't know man. I think just looking at the map is not a good gameplay so do zooming is.

Would be much better if game felt rewarding without degenerate methods, so I would say it's a step in good direction.
I have been checking the forum for a bit now and I must honestly say... this sounds to me a lot like people are crying about having to actually play the game. Are you sure you people don't just rather want to go to the casino to get your gambling addiction fix???

If the game is "run around aimlessly back and forth in crappy map layouts", then you and about 1% of the machoist playerbase can continue playing a dead game by yourself.

Not wanting tedious gameplay have nothing to do with gambling addiction, just a pathetic strawman argument.

This is an ARPG game, the entire point of an ACTIONrpg game is to focus on the action, not roleplaying a walking simulator having field trips and picnics and empty terrain looking for some monsters to play with.

Tedium is always the worse gameplay loop. Running a map isn't about exploration. There is no fun to be found in having to look into every corner of every map.

I say bring back the rare icons and show icons for extra content next to the icons of the content added by tablets so we don't have to aimlessly and needlessly go on a easter egg hunt in every map.

If some players actually think having no icons is better add an option in the menu to hide them.

This is not the reflection of the developers you think it is, instead it is of the audience(s).

There are distinctly different player types for games like this and it's a balancing act to try and cater to them.

We are the problem, ultimately, that the developers are trying to solve.

The way you solve that is by picking a particular target audience and NOT trying to cater to any other type of player.

You don't try to make a game that appeals to both the people who want zoomy power trips and the people who want challenging combat.
You pick one and cater only to the one.

Same for any other dichotomy. Where there's a conflict of player desires you pick a target audience and cater only to them.
A smaller playerbase of the one target audience is better than a larger playerbase of mixed audiences.

Those distinctly different players should not be playing the same game.
They should be playing different games, each player type in a game that's actually being designed for them and not the others.

PoE1 and PoE2 should appeal to different players, and in the end, basically nobody should be wanting to play both.

Action of course referring to having actual combat mechanics that require deliberate effort and skill expression, challenging the player, as opposed to zoomy power trips rocketing across the map effortlessly, which is the opposite of action.

If I was going to describe a game as "walking simulator having fieldtrips and picnics" I'd use those words for a game like PoE1 where all I have to do is hold one button and everything in the map dies.

Again this "1%" lmao.
It seems there even parts of "masochists" who want to play the game for fun and poe1 casino addicts who don't even loo at the screen while "playing" the game.
And its not even release where most of new players will come.

And while poe1 is already provide that kind of gameplay 1000x better whats the point to play PoE2 and complain its "too slow" or "they removed icons , now i have to go blind!"
