how could doing more damage to more monsters at once ever be worse than doing less damage to less monsters at once?
Did you even play the campaign or just RMT’d best gear and just blasted through it all? Because I can’t comprehend how are you even asking this when you had a perfect example of how it could be done.

its the best endgame in any arpg ever created by 1000 miles.
Is that why 70% PoE1 players quit once they reach endgame in a given league?
You think that they quit because they reach endgame ? xD ... oh my.
They quit because they got 40 challanges and finished 3-4 builds. Reached personal goals and are ready for the next league. That is by design and it was stated by devs and they are happy that we have downtime to spend on other things.

instead off zoom zoom play with one hand and watch Netflix in between.
I would argue that we can’t even watch Netflix, as we have to be always alert to spot random on-death effects. But that aside, endgame is no less boring than PoE1.

They make 40 challenges and finish 3-4 builds in under a month and then quit for 3 months? Never seen anyone cope harder than that.

if you think it sucks then thats your take, nothing wrong with having that opinion but maybe endgame arpgs are just not for you because i really dont see how anyone could make a serious argument that any other arpgs endgame is even remotely close to path of exiles.
Yeah I think the key there is that you're comparing it to about 5 other games.
im comparing it to every single game in this genre.
so if someones take is that every game in this genres endgame sucks then yeah, endgame arpgs are just not for them. if theres no flavour/brand of ice cream you like, news flash, you dont like ice cream. thats what it means to not like something.
its fine to not like something. i dont like mmos, thats why i dont play them and its why im not talking to someone on an mmo forum right now.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

There isn't some immutable law of reality saying that arpg endgames should take one specific form. We're talking about something that has developed mostly over around a decade, (obvs with D2 as background), with a handful of games that have actually made significant choices. It should continue to develop, drawing on lessons from other genres and, trying new systems, introducing different forms of challenge etc.

PoE ('s endgame) IS the innovation in the genre. It is PoE that introduced things others are copying. If some player doesn't like at least something from Poe's quite vast endgame systems, then it's really hard to picture how would such a person like ARPGs at all. (and vice-versa)

It's always funny to me when people bring this point of "but that's how ARPG's are". We wouldn't have advanced as a species if everyone would be thinking like that.

if you are standing in an ice cream shop saying there isnt a single ice cream ever made that i like but i demand you make a completely new one that i do like?
errr, ok...
maybe they can make one for you. wouldnt hold my breath tho m8s.
your best bet is to find something you do like, enjoy it and then support those people to keep making more of the stuff you like. going to people who specifically make something you dont like and asking them to make something entirely different is kind of mad, ngl.

Ok. It's one game then. I'm trying to extend the credit a bit because other games have tried a few iterations, tried a few different mechanics. But sure, if you want to put it that way, please do. Because what you're saying is that one game did one thing and that one thing was so good that it will define the genre forever. Which is a take, I'll give you that.
My argument would be that the second version of that game might try to do something equally revolutionary. Might try to instantiate something that uses forms of challenge that have developed over the decade since they last made a major innovation. Rather than sticking with something that requires 10 years of bloat to engage even its old player base.
