Releasing the game in this state and then going on holiday was a poor decision.

wow in a week all these garbage holidays threads are gone, thanx god.
No It wasn't

You are clueless on being a beta tester.

I spent a 1000 or sth, wife 200+ on console and they can take a whole January for all I care, with 0 updates, except technical stuff for people who have problems. Game launched higly playable for 300k people it seems, good enough even to be reviewed by IGN, and guess what, I bet you can play it without major problems, and not all your entitled personal complaints have to be adressed asap.

You not liking xp loss is not an emergency, or a reason not to go on vacation. Why would you state it as sth objective btw, "should have been adressed" (because YOU say so), what if I love xp loss, am entitled and demand it to stay? Ever thought about it?

And yeah I say keep xp loss.
+1 i dont even want to know how much i spend on poe so far :D but worth every penny

I really do wonder how gaming industry succeeded at making people think paying money doesnt lead to entitlement (its pretty much what a contract with a money transaction is about ...).

On the other hand they also managed to make ppl pay extra for basics like Multiplayer and made ppl agree with destroying the second hand market pretending its something bad ...

I cant think of any other industry where people are this undemanding after paying money.

Its also almost comical how monetary transactions for items that are 50+ USD are called "Microtransactions".

Just imagine - yeah you just bought that couch for full price - but you dont own the couch you only own the licence to use it and we can revoke it at any time. Also that extra pillow - if you want it its a subscription - buying it from a third party is a violation of our contract terms. And dont you even dare thinking about selling or gifting the couch if you dont need it anymore.

Also if you want third parties to sit on it you need the premium subscription.

Also its funny how nobody talks about the other way arround - if you dont pay in time - guess whos not gonna say "okay no problem just do it later".

Also F2P is never F2P - you either pay with your data and/or have lots of things ingame that will lead to a way worse expirience if you dont pay extra and most of the time that extra payment will be beyond AAA pricing pretty fast.

Dont get me wrong - the game is great - and their monetization atleast is not P2W - but the limitations of MTX are pretty extreme - especially considering the pricing. And their support also doesnt reflect the pricing of their MTX.

You don't understand.

If the product sold straight doesn't work, or is heavily broken for you, you demand solutions asap.

The context here is entirely different though. This guy and countless guys like him making these threads, all demand their money buy them the right to influence the design, philosophy and so their personal complaints are immediately resolved. The OP arbitrarily decided xp loss is bad, and should have been addressed from the start and wasn't, therefore the company should stop vacationing and get their asses to the studio so he has his game features right. Two days ago or so smb demanded they sit down now and redesign all maps.

It's like buying a 2nd premium couch, and demanding that entire line of couches is changed to better accomodate your butt. Entitlement vs insane and arrogant entitlement.

OP here doesn't even care there are people with more money spent that disagree, so how do we solve it now? Listen to him? Count the money total vs money total, pure nr of people, paying people, all people, people who supported 2 only, polls, steam reviews? Is game design a democracy already?

Maybe just listen to me, I can have demands, you might not like it, but should have been addressed clearly because I said so. Or maybe just let them work and gauge the feedback vs their design ideas and make decisions. It's not something you should do based on people's first impressions anyway, so the vacation thing is completly irrelevant.

I'm ok with the game not being updated (except tech stuff for people), because for me it works, and I understand that the features I'd like to be there (like auto aim toggle for example), will take time to make it there, or not make it at all. There are roadmaps, mtx promise, PoE 1 support promise etc etc. So, I accept playing a game that doesn't meet my exact expectations and see what happens.

the beta game was released as a beta test.

This game isn't in beta, by very definition.

This is a game in Alpha, let's not misconstrue the truth

To be fair i don't believe there is an actual standardized definition for what alpha/beta/EA etc means.

Back in the day Alpha used to mean internal testing / early builds
Beta is for wider testing / targeted testing / public testing
Gold/GM is release

GGG uses "Steamish" term "Early Access" - and steam itself used to use "greenlight" before EA became a thing.

Look at 7 Days to Die for example - the game went through maaaaaaany years in Alpha only to go straight to release (maybe there were like 1 or 2 versions called beta but whatever, drop of piss in the ocean compared to the amount of time it spent as Alpha).

So in no uncertain terms, at the moment, the official stated state of the game is Early Access - and using Steam's early access meaning it means the game is being worked on, is in a playable state, possibly incomplete and might remain so for a certain amount of time either specified by the developer or until it's ready. It has been released into early access to fund further development and refine the final product.

Over and out o7.
Give the devs time to brathe man....they will fix all the stuff after holidays, no need to panik. ;)

Disclaimer: I enjoy the game and will continue to support it.

Excuse my sense of entitlement but I did spend $60 to support GGG.

I don't mind the team taking vacation. Hope they stay out as much as they can and enjoy their free time like we are. It's just that with the EA launch of such an anticipated title it leaves a sour taste in my mouth that the team isn't present in such a crucial moment for the franchise. I expected the hype train to die down and for the cracks to start showing themselves, but the product on release needed constant attention and patches every week for the first month at least.

Certain mechanics such as loss of xp on death in end game should've been addressed immediately and the other major topics being discussed by the community. In no way saying the team doesn't have a difficult task at hand and changes should be at the snap of the communities fingers ; and also not discrediting what they did manage to fix with recent patches which were wonderful, but this pattern of good patches needed to be consistent which wasn't the case. Leaving players growing more frustrated as more issues presented themselves and leaving the community divided with no response from the team in over 2 weeks. I just don't agree with that line of thinking from a business stand point. It could've been delayed till after the holidays but revenue is revenue.

This game is likely the worst it will ever be and that's an amazing thing to say since it already is incredible. It's just a shame that it launched at the time it did and that there wasn't enough engagement with the player base that I felt was enough for a launch.

The launch to me felt like a fire. A fire that roared for a bit then petered out shortly after. Can't wait for the team to comeback and relight it. All I have is optimism and excitement for this game and I hope it really becomes the one of the best Arpg of all time.

Happy Holidays everyone and Happy new Years!!!

I feel like people do not understand one crucial piece of information here.

THIS IS NOT A FULL GAME LAUNCH.

This is at best, a beta. This is not a "crucial time", they stated this was an unfinished game and this EA is for stress testing, bug fixing and fine tuning.
They released it, did some patches before the holiday to fix bugs and balance then went on holiday. When they come back they can resume editing and building.

So what if we go a few weeks without an update. The game is playable and you can continue to find bugs and stress test, post it and move on.
There has been plenty of engagement until the holiday, and this "launch" was not a fire. This beta launch was better than most launches have been for full games.
Comparing like games, blizzard has not had a launch that was comparable to this in over a decade. both d3 and d4 were practically completely unplayable for at least a full day on launch. it took 2-3 hours from the stated launch time before people were actually able to get in and play. that includes with them wiping and restarting the servers due to character ID bugs.

People need to stop complaining that the launch was bad, because it wasn't.
Play the game and report the bugs.
If people don't like the game, cool, but objectively this is not a bad beta launch by any means.

Thanks for listening to my ted talk.
The devs' decision to put this game in this state (EA or not) out there AND then go for vacation is the equivalent of pushing something to master on a Friday night...
You have every right to do it but it's NOT a smart decision, and you're gonna regret that the next Monday morning.

The state of the game is fine. You need to go outside take a breath and relax. Hundreds of thousands of people are playing and having fun. Jesus mate.
