GGG desperately trying to reinvent the wheel and ending up with a square.

What's kinda funny about all this discourse over PoE2 is how elitist people have become. The "git gud" argument crowd and "go back to PoE1/D4/LE/Whatever" comments are totally just as equally unhelpful as the comments these people respond to. Invalidating other people's experience is the worst form of argument imaginable because you happen to enjoy the thing someone is not having a good time with. It is literally "well, your experience is clearly inferior to mine!" Seriously. Get that self-centered garbage outta here. It's a lazy way to have discourse over something.
Some things in this game are objectively bad and a downgrade compared to its predecessor, and other Diablo-like ARPG entries. The most notable downgrade I can think of are actual negative values on the passive tree. Why on Earth they thought that putting negative attack speed on notables/passives in the Warrior area is absolutely mind-boggling. It is mind-boggling for the fact that the passive tree should be a source of power - not detriment to your builds. -AS is a clear detriment and far outweighs most of the %increase from the nodes because as it is, a lot of mobs and bosses already move faster than the player character. Keystones already are there with a very clear Benefit and Drawback and people take them to do very specific things. CI or Vaal Pact for example. Regular nodes with negatives should leave the game entirely. Playing a life-based character is a clear downgrade overall compared to the previous game. ES is... just... better... Why they thought this direction was good is also mind-boggling. Will they nerf ES after the holidays? Almost certainly. The curse activation timer is also bad and needs to go. Blasphemy and cursed ground (and hand of chayula) apply curses instantly. But without those supports? 1 - 2 seconds activation AFTER casting for .5 - .7 seconds is total a$$. The multiple curse keystone should add a 1 second timer as its drawback (like it does now) and GGG should remove the base curse activation time from the gems. Waiting to level 52 for temp chains (and other "higher tier" gems) was also kinda a$$. Maybe I'm just used to the level 38 from PoE1. I've seen it posted on the feedback forum before; making the game tedious to slow it down isn't going to lead to success in the long run. It is a lazy way to inflate play times and slow things down without adding anything actually meaningful. The fact that in PoE1, you can spend a couple hours planning a perfect craft is awesome. Then they remove that in PoE2 and "want the game to be slower" at the same time whilst encouraging orb slamming like a zoomer is at total odds with itself and their "vision" for this game. I've already turned the game into a zoom-boom fest spamming curses and exploding them. Hexblast Ignite was my absolute favourite build in PoE1. Whilst I can't HBIgnite quite in the same fashion yet in PoE2, I'm going to work on it until it comes together when GGG adds some actual good things to the game. These are just some of my thoughts. |

" Except it is 100% true. You can look it up yourself. The all-time peak for PoE 1 is lower than PoE 2's current player count. Stop trying to lie when we can *look up the thing you're lying about*. |

" They have zero idea how the plans changed through years. On Probation Any%

+1 its honestly baffling how it even got this far without people questioning some of the design choices.

" You're comparing a hyped-up paid EA with numerous interviews, streamers and content creators generating attention towards it, with a regular PoE league. That's not a comparison you can make. We don't know how well PoE 2 will fare in a seasonal model, because no seasonal resets have happened yet. But they will during EA, can't wait for the first test league. Then we'll all truly find out just how many people were along for the hype train, and how many will stick around every 3-4 months to play the game again from scratch for new content. Then you can go ahead and compare the numbers. Right now we have no numbers of a PoE 2 league launch, it hasn't happened yet lol |
|
" What do you not understand about this? No, its not true, because almost none of these PoE2 players are repeatedly returning seasonal players, but flavor of the month newbies fooled by marketing hype. They will be gone permanently, and the remaining playerbase for every league will be much smaller than PoE's if the game is going to be this much worse than PoE. At no point did I lie, this game is incapable of becoming as popular as PoE, without massive changes. Its currently designed to be a one playthrough game. Yeah part of me wants to keep proving my point but something tells me its falling on deaf ears meanwhile the guy is fast tracking a mute and they're going to take me with them. If this forum had an ignore feature like the game does it would honestly be better for everyone.
You can't argue with someone who's making a popularity based argument who suddenly wont accept popularity as criteria. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. |

I find it fascinating that you seem to expect the player numbers to nosedive when (if) PoE 2 gets leagues, and yet your conclusion is "the players are the problem" and not "the league system is the problem".
"We made a league and all our players left, Steve." "Damn those players, John." |
|
" It's 100% launch hype. Game is new and shiny and launching 6 months after D4 (as opposed to a year and a half after D3) as a sequel to a game that built up a player base of 200k+. |
|
" 1. We already know it will have league resets 2. The league system isn't a problem, we know this from the fact that the league system has constantly increased the PoE playerbase for 12 years straight 3. Therefore, the reason why this games playerbase will disappear with league resets is that the game itself is not great like PoE is. |
