Cast on freeze nerf and overall thoughts so far.

Respect the players time GGG some of us have jobs. I spent a lot of time on my character and with the cast on freeze nerf its basically dead in the water. This is early access not beta test. If you want to nerf things every week then I see no point with this game. If I for example roll a new character now what is stopping you from nerfing that class dead in a couple of weeks? When you nerf things this hard you remove the fun and then loose your players..
im pretty new to this but wouldnt a simple fix have been to include an internal cooldown equal to the casttime of the spell.
Main issue for it being OP was it paired with Comet, not COF itself.
Giving comet an internal cooldown of 1,6 solves that?
Here is another idea how to fix this:

Instead of gaining energy when you freeze an enemy, you will gain energy per hit only while the enemy is frozen. The initial hit that freezes the enemy counts as one hit, but after that you gain more every time you hit it while it's frozen.

Maybe something like this:
Hitting a frozen mob with any cold skill gives base 20 energy.
Depending of monster type you get a multiplier X (normal 1, magic 1.5, rare 2, boss 2.5)
You gain meta energy multiplier depending of your skills

Example scenarios
I hit a frozen normal mob with frostbolt, I gain 20 energy.
The normal mob has a multiplier of 1. I gain 20 energy per hit.
I have 100% in meta energy gain. I gain 40 energy per per hit while it is frozen.

I hit a frozen elite mob with frostbolt, I gain 20 energy.
The elite mob has a multiplier of 2. I gain 40 energy per hit.
I have 100% in meta energy gain. I gain 80 energy per hit while it is frozen.

I hit a frozen boss mob with frostbolt, I gain 20 energy.
The boss mob has a multiplier of 2.5. I gain 50 energy per hit
I have 100% in meta energy gain. I gain 100 energy per hit while it is frozen.

I am pretty livid to be fair.

I started on launch night, only just got into Act 3 Cruel, build was only just starting to feel comfortable and fun and now I can not kill a single monster.

What is worse is that I can not respec my character as I need nearly 200k or more in gold...I have 3k and it costs more than that per point.

I do not know why they needed to nerf this. Yeah it may not be as intended (i.e. frequency) but it was enabling people to play the game and test the content, the purpose of the Beta.

Now I can not play the game and can not do anything, if I go back to lower level areas, I get reduced drops and on top of that they are further reduced due to the level penalty.

They really should have issued these patch notes about 1 week in advance of the patch going live to enable people to get what they need to convert their builds into something else.
I feel like the change is okay. It was way too strong before.
Now with support, skill level, quality and passive nodes, I was able to get 150% increased energy gain and a refund of energy on trigger. So every time I freeze an unique enemy and most of the time when I freeze a rare, it will trigger, helping with single target damage. Even if it won't trigger on a rare, he is frozen anyway, so I can cast comet manually.
For white mobs clearing, I use cold snap after freezing, which deals enough damage to kill them. Now I also can refund most of the mana passives and allocate them in damage nodes. Seems balanced to me.

Yep, thanks for the nerf, I'm done with POE 2 now. GG
The calculation of energy is even bugged now.. If you take comet the base cast time is 1(reducible) + 1(irreducible) = 2s. It is then supposed to need 200 energy based on the description but it needs 300 for some reason, making the build even worse.

Posted in another thread but this one seems more relevant.

I understand why they decided to nerf Cast on Freeze (CoF); it was undeniably strong and could easily trigger on every single freeze. However, I think they overdid it. Right now, CoF feels useless. Doing the calculation for number of enemies needed for single proc explains why:

Number of Monsters = Maximum Energy [300 for Comet] / ( Energy Gained [10] * { 1 + Energy Gain Modifier [mine is 0.82] } * Power of Monster [0.5-3] * Rarity of Monster [1,2,5,20] )

- 17 average normal monsters
- 9 strong normal monsters
- 6 very strong normal monsters
- 9 average magic monsters
- 5 strong magic monsters
- 3 very strong magic monsters
- 4 average rare monsters
- 2 strong rare monsters
- 2 very strong rare monsters
- 1 unique monster

That's a lot of average enemies just to get a single CoF proc! Even with very strong rare, you are no longer guaranteed a proc!

Adding to the issue, there doesn’t seem to be a viable way to improve this through passives. The passive skill tree only offers a +24% energy gain boost across three nodes. Even with these nodes maxed, we’d still need to freeze 15 average normal monsters to trigger one CoF proc. This doesn’t seem balanced. To make CoF usable again, I think the energy gain needs to be at least doubled or buff the passive nodes to provide much more energy.

The nerf might have been fine if there were alternative builds that offered comparable big-damage output. But as far as I know, there aren’t any. Does anyone have plans for other builds to run after this patch? Or has anyone found a workaround to make CoF more viable under these new conditions?

It was a mistake to make it way too strong (at least vs crowds), and now they made the same magnitude of mistake again (in the other direction) by making it basically useless.

A workaround for me: i play with elemental storm (crazy freez buildup) and therefor with high crit chance and eye of winter as trigger. Versus strong targets i cast frostbomb followed by comet (with consume freeze) on frozen targets as sort of combo. For trash is use cold snap. It works and was rather cheap to respec since most of the nodes remain effective. But cast on freeze is now useless, i use frost armor and grim feast instead.

Are u completly out of your mind ggg, why would you take my fun away from playing sorc, really what where you thinking
I don't care that they nuked the build.

I care about my inability to respec for free. This is completely not in line with the philosophy of an early access. Aren't we supposed to test builds? My 55 sorc is in Act 5 and I just don't have gold for a full rebuild to a spec I'm not even sure how it'll perform.

And CoF is so broken right now that I can't even farm Act 5 maps to get the needed gold in the first place.

What the hell was this decision?
