PoE 2 Is For Tourists

"
Do you guys just want PoE 1 with updated graphics?

Remember - this is the Path of Exile forum, where the most die-hard POE1 fans hang out. People who believe that anyone who can't beat Pinnacle bosses within four hours of a new league start with the thousand divines they obtained on TFT are all utterly worthless scrubs who should uninstall and leave the game forever. they value one thing and one thing alone - egregious and unsustainable power scaling.

They very much wanted nothing whatsoever except PoE1 with a graphics update. it's why this entire "Tourists" thread exists - this is the same complaint they level at anyone who protests the runaway bloat and impenetrability of the first game. 'You're not a real fan of Path of Exile unless you can beat Pinnacle bosses deathless in less than ten seconds; uninstall and leave, skrub!' They will never accept that they already have their game, and this one is for the rest of us.

I'm the one that made the thread, and none of this is true. I have dumped dozens of hours into teaching people the game simply to help out a newer or less initiated person.

You are projecting without understanding what made PoE great.

I also don't give a damn if poe 2 isn't for me. I simply believe that it is for NOBODY in the long term and because it is unsustainable GGG will eventually blame PoE 1 for siphoning players and sacrifice PoE 1 to salvage the PoE 2 ghost town. Best case they neglect PoE1, and that's already happening despite what they say. If you want evidence then just look at the most recent league. You might notice it is very literally just a reboot of the most recent league with a mech from the league before slapped onto it. You think that's going to get better?
I resisted buying into early access because I firmly believe it's not okay to pay for beta testing. However, I was desperate for a good ARPG and eventually gave in. I've clocked thousands of hours in Diablo 2, both online and offline.

After playing Path of Exile 2 early access for 30 hours, I'll never EVER complain about Diablo 2's drop rates again—even when playing solo self-found.
99.9% of the people who are saying "Game is perfect dont change anything" will probably quit after the campaign, if not before it.

They dont realize the campaign isnt the game, its the introduction to the game.

I dont think anyone should even be allowed to post about the game until theyre in maps.

Hi, Nobody here, nice to meet you. There are about 400k Nobodies online right now.

He did say "In the long term" which is what a lot of us are trying to consider.

Were not just providing feedback on what were experiencing now, its what we see will be problems going forward, such as the long campaign.

400K online right now is a completely meaningless statement when hes talking about the long term. Were only a few days in.

Hyping numbers now is idiotic. It is a fresh release after a good media tour with streamers and youtubers pushing the game

What percentage of those 400k are going to come back every few months for a new league? Especially with the game in its current state?

I'd imagine a significant portion of that playerbase are campaigners, which is fine, it's a great campaign and I'm excited for the last 3 acts, but that's no basis for building a live service game off of.

This is simply a slightly more welcoming Ruthless, which has such a middling player count it wouldn't be able to support its own prolonged survival.
PoE2 is a great tutorial for PoE1.
Here's food for thought for the tourists.

Let's say this streamerbait (I cannot call this game any other way considering it was propped up by streamers, advertised by streamers-the horrible clickbaits on YouTube, paid off to streamers-2 gifted sub and most likely die by streamers)

If, and that's if, the game stays the same in the current iteration and ALL the people come back for league content, how do you think the new leagues will look like in terms of monetization?

GGG money stream are stash tabs. Support packs are also important, but not as much.

Where is initiative to buy stash tabs if you have nothing to put in? Titan's fanny pack ascendancy is a joke as it is.

Old players already have plenty of stash tabs and new one won't buy one, because they will ditch the game the moment a new EA streamerbait pops up.

The only logical solution will be to create leagues that FORCE you to buy stash tabs, which will not sit well even with tourists, because they all hate nickel and dimming in the video game industry. Alternatively, they will be paid expansions.

All I want to say is, who will pay for all of this, when the money run out and people who funded the game are not coming back?

Who is the game made for from a purely business viewpoint? What is the long term revenue? Or is it just pump and dump?

Even if you love POE 2 to death, you have to see the massive conflict of interest and contradiction.

Well, considering the "this company is for the little guy and really cares about making good games!" company known as GGG did the unforgiveable and released a pay-to-play early access, I'll state the obvious devil advocate answer to your question.

The answer is that they will "ease" in (which can take many forms) monetization that isn't so obviously "optional". How about 1 week paid early access to all new leagues?

Get some "we hate videogames" MBA guys in here and they'll concoct dozens of good monetization ideas each of which will make your eyes twitch in rage.

The genie is not going back in the bottle. The community here is underplaying how big of a deal it is for GGG to even do a paid early access in the first place.
