cannot use the same support gem twice in different spells
1) If its overpowered to use a support gem more than once, that sounds like a balance issue to me. Also, plenty of utility skill supports are not overpowered per se, they are just used to make the skills do what you need (e.g. in conjunction with certain keystones)
2) The build diversity argument makes no sense to me at all. Every build has this same limitation. If we are talking about skill diversity, then this limitation will do just the opposite. Folks will just use the skill that has the support that makes it work the way they want, and use the other sub-par skill less often, if at all. 3) What about the new weapon swap design? Even if we can't double up on a support gem normally, I think it should somehow be allowed when using the 2nd weapon set skill. They added this cool system for the passive tree so we can spec points based on which weapon set is selected, maybe they need to do that in the skill gems window also, so we could use a support gem up to 2 times, but not on the same weapon set layout. |

" Exactly, having less options does not increase build diversity. Each skill has a small number of useful supports for your build. Just because I can't use the best #1 or #2 choice doesn't mean I'll now use something else that will change my build. |

Yeah this pointless limitation is most likely gonna be removed before the first league and official full release. I'd be surprised if they leave it in, cus that would make the game's build diversity so low. It's just not fun to be limited to 1x copy of each support gem, and it makes some builds so much weaker than they should be.

It is amazing and it makes the game have many times higher build diversity and it is not going anywhere.

All this does is make me change support gems when Im doing a boss fight, they need to change this, I hate having to change gems all the time when Im using a different skill for a boss

I'm considering taking a break from PoE 2 until this is changed. This left me feeling very limited in my build choices.

" Actually restriction do in fact increase build diversity like nothing else. You are forced to make a choice instead of slaping the same thing on every skill. Without that every single build would look the same. Just look how it ended up in poe1. Every skill has this 5 "mandatory supports" and you are stupid for not using them. |

What's funny is they were saying this would increase build diversity, but in reality this will decrease diversity. Because players will run the most efficient order of support gems for the active skills their class most benefits from. It basically encourages specific builds with no deviation in them. Also the fact that they will be balancing around what most efficient build set ups are based on the top end of players builds, the rest of us scrubs would have to run the "proper" builds to complete content. Also the fact gems are tied to weapon classes leaves even less room for build expression/creativity. The whole system is really a step backwards in terms of game design and innovation.

At the very least, warn me if I'm about to buy a support gem that I already have somewhere else
This is VERY annoying, I can't remember every gem I'm using. POE2 knows, it should warn me. Even better if there is a UI filter to remove bought support gems |
