is the xp lost on death a good design ?

Deleting the exp penalty would only improve the game, that's a simple objective fact. Or making it toggleable would just be nice qol that literally won't affect people that like it because, you can keep it on. And people that don't like it can just click a button in their settings. That's the easiest solution to this problem. There's a good reason so many people complain about exp loss, because its simply bad game design. Its outdated. I really have nothing else to say about this lol, nor do I or anyone else have to prove how bad it is. Because its bad. It sucks. The proof is all of the forum threads about how much it sucks.

Your opinion is not a fact. I stopped reading here.
Features being togglable isn't an improvement.

I see, deleting XP penalties is a simple objective fact that would only improve the game because, clearly, anything that people complain about must be bad game design. Let’s just toss out the idea of stakes, challenge, or any semblance of meaningful progression while we’re at it. After all, if you can toggle off the mechanic, it’s totally fair and balanced, right? Because nothing says “rewarding gameplay” like leveling up by clicking a button in your settings menu. And, of course, the proof of how bad XP loss is lies in the forums—because we all know forum threads are the gold standard of unbiased analysis. While we’re at it, maybe we should delete drop rates too, since people complain about those all the time. Bosses should just rain Magebloods, and maybe they can throw in a stack of Exalts on death for good measure. Look, XP loss isn’t perfect, but it exists for a reason: it gives progression weight, makes success feel earned, and keeps gameplay engaging. Without stakes, leveling is just a boring treadmill, and toggling off the challenge for convenience isn’t a solution—it’s just removing the game from the game.
Careful bud, you will get targeted by the kids for challenging an absurdity with another absurdity.
It's a fact. Nobody needs this, nobody is interested in this.

It quite literally does none of those things. No I don't feel any weight to progression lol, leveling is just a chore to be done and then you can corpse-run and not care about exp after getting all your jewel sockets. No it doesn't make success feel earned, its just a boring grind where you can take 2 steps forward then 10 steps backward because you got oneshot by something.

Leveling is still a boring treadmill even now with exp loss, in fact exp loss makes that grind even worse. It adds 0 stakes, only annoyance when you die. "Oh I want to do this boss but I have to wait until I level up" is one of the most annoying things in this game lol

Not everyone wants pressure and "stakes" in this game. This is why people play softcore trade, there's a reason the majority of the playerbase prefers it. Most people don't like the idea of hardcore or even ssf cus why would I self-farm anything when I can just pay 5 divs for it on trade?

There's 0 pride or accomplishment in lvl100 its just a monotonous chore lol

The only way to satisfy every player is just adding a toggle in the settings for exp loss and calling it a day. Simple solution. And like 90% of softcore trade players would disable it right away, because it's just an annoying mechanic that wastes hours of your time for literally no reason.

I don't know if this pointless death penalty will ever be removed from softcore when there are already 50 other negative effects from dying in that mode.
What are these "other 50 negative effects from dying" you're talking about? Come on, I challenge you to post at least 5.

Still waiting btw. And no, "something I don't like because lol" is still not a good argument, nor fact.

Actually can we get de-leveling please.

:P could you imagine, compared to exp lost on death.

I like that it might encourage people to party up a bit more.

Also not being serious about de-leveling though its been a mechanic in some of my favorite games of all time before PoE.
Innocence forgives you

I don't like exp loss either. I do want to get to level 100 as every pasive tree point matters. But to get there you have to play content which you do not really wanna play. And you have to do it for pretty long time - that is what sucks about it. I do level up with breach + evolving shrine + beyond strat. Other viable option I know about is abyss instead of breach but that makes every run much longer. I have to do it in t16s maps to make sure I am not dying. Level 98 to 99 takes about 30 maps without single death, level 99 to 100 close to 50 maps. That is 80 maps of content which i do not enjoy. That is lots of forced and tedious gameplay which I would much rather spend by running as hard t17s as I can, but I would never be able to level up this way. In fact you don't get any exp at all... xD

Right now I am trying to force myself for several days to get another level but can't do it so far as just a vision of those chores is repulsive. Problem is that when you start you can't stop until you get that level as jumping to content you actually do enjoy will just cost you all progress. Not sure if this is outdated mechanic, but for sure it is just annoying, tedoious and boring. I don't see any negative in removing it completely neither I see anything useful or entertaining in keeping it alive.
