So the compressed version of the complaint is that "although we're getting free stuff, we're not getting it now and damn it, I want my free stuff NOW!!"
It essentially boils down to whether you think it's scummy to claim a game is Free to play and end up charging for it. I have yet to see this rational argument as to why it isn't.
The main defence of GGG seems to be the argument that it's EA and not release, therefore it's okay.
This is just semantics. This is the release of POE2 and GGG are treating it as such.
1) Delaying the launch, to beef up server infrastructure and make sure MTX works
2) Available for purchase on steam, the largest game store on the planet.
(poe1 could not be played on steam until release)
3) Sending the game out to reviewers and media companies to advertise it.
I find it fascinating that those defending GGG are the ones getting triggered at opinions other than their own. But that is what happens when you get people to pay for something. Once they have purchased the product, they assign ownership to it, and It biases their ability to be impartial
No they do not:
1.) Yes because it was a quite insane thing to do, and when better to do it? Serverdowntime for days during EA testing? or during POE1 league launch? Nope, better doing during poe1 4th month league when there are barely any active players.
2.) When the first one released steam was not what it now is. But you remembered that and just ignored it, to have an argument. A stupid one but still. Back then they also didn't supply an epic key!!!!!!
3.) They did that for years, so in your mind, the game is released since 2021, good to know.
I find it facinating that those accusing GGG use some aribitary unlogical arguments, and think that anyone would believe those valid. No, the game is still free, just not the EA. same as in poe1 (pro tip, back then EA wasn't really done yet, they called it closed beta)
Current Build: Penance Brand

I think you misunderstood my post, or perhaps something got lost in translation or perhaps english is not your primary language.
Points 1,2,3 were in reinforcing my spoint that this is the release of poe2 and not a beta test, (hence open beta renamed to early access). Reviewers generally don't get sent copies ahead of the public unless its a release and poe1 wasn't avaiable to buy in steam store because it wasn't ready. Poe2 clearly is ready for release and the devs have said as much they are happy to release it.

No, it essentially boils down to not understanding what an EA is. You clearly don't, which is fine. But when you don't understand something, it's usually a good idea to listen to people when they explain it to you.
They are NOT charging for the game. "The game" isn't finished. "The game" does not exist yet. The current "product" isn't ready for full release. It will be finished one day, and it will be F2P. So they aren't "ending up charging for it" - it will "end up" being F2P - but we aren't at "the end" yet.
They give you an option to "take part" in testing a half-finished game. Full of bugs, without all weapon classes, character classes, skills or characters.
It's probably people like you, who thinks this is "the game" they want to exclude from EA, because you will wonder why everything isn't in place yet, because you see no difference between "the game" and EA. So they slap a price tag on it so that only people that WANT to be a tester and FUND the future release gets in.
Tip for the future: EVERY SINGLE TIME you read or hear the words "early access", you should think "funding model".

Your repeated explanation of early access as a "funding model" is noted, but it sidesteps the real issue. Saying "the game isn't finished yet" doesn't erase the fact that it's offering enough content to justify hype and monetization, offering paying players exclusive access for potentially years, effectively creating a paywall that contradicts GGG's free-to-play philosophy.

It's the same way POE1 was handled, and POE1 has been considered an FTP for over a decade.
I honestly can't believe there's people on here using terms like "scumbag" and "undeniably scummy".
"I don't care that I've had PoE for free for 12 years"
"I don't care if in 6months to a year I'll have PoE2 for free also"
"Give me PoE 2 for free, now, you scumbags"
Genuinely repulsive behaviour. Makes me sick to my stomach.
PLEASE go play another game.
I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game.
It's the same way POE1 was handled, and POE1 has been considered an FTP for over a decade.
I swear people just like arguing.
Except that it hasn't been handled the same.
If it was, there would be no early access and the game would be f2p after the paid closed beta had finished.
POE1 wasn't released in a finished state. Acts 5-10 were added years after it was released and well after everyone had access. Anyone could join open beta without paying.
So the argument that poe2 is in early access and not complete, therefore this is not the release, is nonsense. Path of exile has always been a game that has constantly been in development. Now it's just being paywalled, and POE2 is far more complete than POE1 was in open beta when everyone had access.

Its exactly the same. Closed beta = EA. Its the same thing with different name. PoE1 was finished with 4 acts, the rest was added as expansion later on. With 3 acts it was open beta that was free. So yes, PoE had payed early access with f2p afterwards, just naming scheme was a bit different back than. The amount of content is irrelevant. Nowhere in the definition of both EA and beta test its stated how completed the game must be in order to qualify as such. You are free to prove me wrong but do it with facts, not feelings. I know what im talking about since well i was in CBT of PoE. I know for a fact it was the same.

Closed beta does not equal EA. POE2 has already had its closed beta. It was invite only and for testing purposes only, like beta should be. POE2s EA is the same as POE1's open beta, if anything it's far further along in development, just now it's being paywalled.
