Diablo 3 and this Game - What's the Difference?

You can only have one type of Kiwi.

Awww... poor kiwis :( oh well, if the game's like d3 in enjoyability then i'll just get the cool looking golden kiwi :)
The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
asteroid came close to the earth, there's snow
in Arizona, star wars and star trek have the
same director! Who the hell is playing jumanji?

Did you play D2?

No actually. I just started playing D3. Got it for free from annual pass with WoW so I thought, ok, it's free let's try it out and see how it is. I found it to be lots of fun especially the monk :) I heard that D2 was better than D3 but I can't give an answer to that as I've never played D2 or D1.

Well, to put it simply in a way you won't understand unless you play D2 or PoE, PoE is more similar to Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 is.
Did I hear no RMAH in PoE? :P opps sorry I'll leave that for the off topic... silly me.
ZOMG ITS BETA TIME!

Although I'm pretty sure if you buy two separate packages, say both Bronze and Silver, rather than upgrading from Bronze to Silver, then you'll get both kiwis.

Yep that's completely correct! Upgrading works as if you had bought the new pack from the beginning, it gives you the difference between the packs. However, if you purchase two separate packs you will receive both Kiwis.

D2 you could play for over a year and still not feel you had explored all the potential character builds and different items in the game.

What are you smoking?? Most classes had like 4 viable/worthwhile skills at most. I played D2 from launch for years but in that time I think I maybe used about 30% at most of the classes skills which I played (which was all of them except necro)

D3s skill system is far superior to D2s, its actually interesting and encourages experimentation rather than min/maxing into a few skills and never changing.

POE is alot like D2, some might say to its detriment. I mean theres taking inspiration and then theres straight out copying. The only major difference is the skill system (passive tree) which once you get a handle on it is just an obtuse version of a standard skill tree, and much like most ARPGs more or less forces you into certain builds to be effective.

Its a good game but its nowhere near as innovative or fresh feeling as D3 imho. It feels like a game that was released 5 or 6 years ago (graphics withstanding as they are quite nice) the combat is flat, the tactics are 1 dimensional, it has better itemisation than D3 though. Personally I prefer D3, and I loved D2 but its a different game to POE.

I feel if you like D3 alot and haven't played D2 before you may be underwhelmed. As its really an anachronistic throwback to yesteryear, which isn't all bad but its not going to be to everyones taste.

Yeah bro,

ignore the actual gem skill system

Ignore any character can be viable at least 4 different ways

Ignore the skill tree special nodes that drastically change fundamental class mechanics

Ignore loot that does the same as above

Ignore a far superior and more well thought out crafting system

Ignore tweaking items and leveling skill gems and combining effects

Ignore the fact that even white drops are interesting and can be valuable

Ignore all that and yeah, it's a D2 clone bro ...

U sound mad you paid for a box only to pay to collect loot that punishes actually using a smooth combat feel...

Because D1 and D2 went multiplatnium because of elite graphic animation and an elite screenshake ...

There's some truth to this. If you're coming from D3 certain things are going to feel a little underwhelming (using basic attack a lot, all characters using a mana system, skills generally a lot less crazy/flashy).

On the other hand I don't think PoE is nearly as bad as D2 in terms of builds due to respec points, support gems, and freely trading out skills whenever you want. Not as flexible as D3 but I think a major step beyond D2 - which, you're right, had a terribly small number of viable builds per character if you were playing into Hell difficulty.

But I think overall PoE is best seen as simply a somewhat different style than anachronistic given the major differences from D2's skill system. And the atmosphere is, again, different and enjoyable in its own way. I like both D3 and PoE, and I imagine you (the OP) will too. Just don't take all the D3 hate around here personally, haha :D And if you get a chance, try out D2 sometime - with a high res mod it's still quite enjoyable to run through if only for the story and cinematics.

Got my key tonight and played for a few hours (after playing D3 since release) and I will say this. so far, Path of Exile, is EVERYTHING I expected from D3, and maybe more. D3 is a complete let down. It's boring, shallow and there is no innovation as far as game-play. PoE is amazing so far. I'm hooked.
