Diablo 3 and this Game - What's the Difference?
So I've been playing D3 and it's been fun. Had to stop, for some reason keeps causing my computer to crash :( and I have a modern rig - i7 chip 12 or 16GB RAM (I forget lol). So I was wondering how is this game compared to that one for those of you who have played D3? I guess what I'm asking is if I enjoyed that game, would I enjoy this one as well?
Thanks :) The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
asteroid came close to the earth, there's snow in Arizona, star wars and star trek have the same director! Who the hell is playing jumanji? | |
Did you play D2?

" I enjoy both for different reasons. They have very different feels. That said, I enjoy this one a hell of a lot more! |

" No actually. I just started playing D3. Got it for free from annual pass with WoW so I thought, ok, it's free let's try it out and see how it is. I found it to be lots of fun especially the monk :) I heard that D2 was better than D3 but I can't give an answer to that as I've never played D2 or D1. The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an

Also, how's the survivability with the toons? Do they have self heals like the monk? Does one solo in this game or do you have a "groupee" that follows you around like in D3?

" I've played D3, and there are definitely features from D3 that I like, but overall I enjoy PoE much more. Like D3, PoE is always-online. You don't need to group for any content if you build your character correctly (read: don't screw it up too much). There are no npc groupees that you can have follow you around. You can group up with other players, and there's a handy interface to do so that was included in the last patch. You have refilling potions in PoE, every monster you kill grants a "charge" to each of your equipped potions, and each "drink" takes a certain number of charges. Kind of like if the health orbs that drop in D3 gave you additional health flasks instead of an instant heal, but you don't need to move around and pick them up. TehHammer is not a crime!

Oh ok sounds cool then. I really like these dark, gothic type of games. I'm thinking of buying the beta key and try it out and if it's really enjoyable, I'll prob go and buy the gold membership/beta thing... I'm a real sucker for in game pets - I love to collect little cute animals, monsters, etc... that follow me around and keep me company :D Now here's another question: can I buy the gold, silver, bronze lvl stuff and get one of each type of pet?? That would be cool to have all these different types of kiwis running around :)

D2 you could play for over a year and still not feel you had explored all the potential character builds and different items in the game.
While the combat in D3 was very satisfying, in less than a month I felt I had seen all there was to see in the game. POE is much closer to D2 in the sense that you can build numerous different character archetypes and play for months and still feel there is more to do and see. It requires planning and thought, which D3 did not. You generally start a character with some sort of a plan. This is going to be an ice witch, or this is going to be a dual wielding warrior that uses frenzy and cleave and go with that build. You can also successfully build a character based on item drops and crafting, without needing to rely on the AH (there isnt one in POE) for item upgrades. In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

" That I do not know. I've only ever seen 1 kiwi out at a time, so I don't think you can have more than one out at once. Also, I'm not sure if you buy the gold package if you also get the silver and bronze, or if you only get the gold. More pets and cosmetic options will be added to the shop once they game goes to open beta, as of right now the only thing to spend your points on is increasing the size of your stash (very very helpful/needed once you get to late game) or additional character slots. You can only have one type of Kiwi.
Ex: If you upgrade your Kiwi support pack to Bronze, you'll lose the $25 one and receive the Bronze Kiwi Last edited by Dephys#0568 on Jun 12, 2012, 1:47:34 PM
