Lost interest in races cuz of Points system

It does indeed seem that many players refuse to believe that they can become better. Many of the top players actually stream their races and you can also go watch their previous streams afterwards. At one point, I was able to reach lvl 15 in a 1 hour race.. every single time. I watch a 1 hour race from the stream of a top player, learned some, and in the next 1 hour race I reached 17 with the same class.

I agree racing against the players who play 24/7 and know all the little tricks each and every patch to get ahead makes the race less enjoyable.

One of the reasons I like the special races, ancestral, turbo, lethal, whatever, since 24/7 players cannot practise these race types all day.

Idea: Maybe when melle gets stronger this will not matter as much, but traps, spells, and ranged players are the only way to win these races. I would like to see a couple races where melle is all you can use and I dont mean ground slam or LS.

Do Cleave or Leap Slam count as melee? I believe they win pretty often. And there are already "No Projectile" races

Yeah people want to farm points and get items instead of actually competing in a race. Getting easy points in races is the only type of steady progression in this RNG-heavy game, so a lot of people who are not interested in racing want to farm them. It would be bad incentive to lower the level requirements for points, there is nothing race~y about reaching level 12 in a one hour race and then logging off.

EDIT: I have no idea how GGG could make people actually wanting to get better in races, maybe give out some good prizes every time you beat your personal record?
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Exactly what i once said... they say its a race, but not everybody is in the same category, why not let it also be a race against yourself
ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

It's not a race though for 95% of the participants - any more than the London Marathon is a race for the 99% that aren't professional marathon runners.

The basic points-per-level system rewards the top racers with the most points, as it should do. But then they're rewarded a second time with points for top in their class, and then a third time with exponentially more lottery chances than everyone else.

In my opinion the basic points spread should be adjusted to encourage all players to push on to the next level, rather than just hitting 12 and sitting out the rest of the race because it's four levels to the next point bracket.

No man no... you cant give lower players rewards... Elitists will start to whine...

Best way would be to limit Race participation in some way.

for example on one given Day there are 4 1h Solo-Races - just make it so that you only can participate in one of them - this way you could also overlap longer Races depending on Timezone etc.
Then there could be 2 Kripps who battle for the Season Top in a week- or month-race, funny stuff.

Sure - someone could make multiple Accounts and participate in every short Race, but there arn't many people to pull that off and win, and those that are are Streamers and no douchebags.

At least this way one could participate in the Race-Season and still stay human and possibly go to work in between.

Ah a Nostradamus in the House. So you speak for the majority? Interesting. Did I miss the vote that you are our official Voice in Forums? Even didn't know there was an election.

ps: Stop comparing yourself with our powerhouses. I cant compete with them and I do not. I compare myself with the well bottom line. I check the few races that I can do where I stand, who is there too and then next race I see if I am better. Same with Sports. I do not compare myself to Tiger Woods. I compare myself with the other people on my skill level. I also do not compare myself to Flash just because he plays Terran too. I compare myself to other Terrans at my skill cap.

You also cant just say "well Fifa we are a low Tier team but we want to be part of the champions league too" So give us a restricted Champions league because we will never beat FC Barca. But thats what I am reading here. And don't try this "its a game" argument. That is just bullshit.

If you want to be Top 10 you have to put in a lot of effort in. That makes a ladder system worth something. That gives you the feeling of achieving something. If you just casualize the system what is it worth then?

Btw. No one asks how you keep motivation up if you have no competition on the top. If Kripp and his group wins every race why should they keep on racing? Why should they keep up the competition?

Well but lets just race the casual way. 3 Hour race -> level 11 -> Nr1 Spot and we feel all so "wow".
Why you should try Harcore http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/209310/page/1

From now on, eveeryone after the top 2 is placed as 3rd, and gets the reward!

Instead of using LeBron James, as an example, its more like running a marathon. Ever placed in the top 20 for one of those? You could be starting alongside hobby long-distance runners, hardcore runners and athletes and most importantly everyday Johns wanting to measure up, see how far they can progress racing against themselves. The QQs here are those fat slobs, who drop out barely 100m into the race, then want a share of the prize money and their picture in the paper.
POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!

Yes they need to revisit the rewards for racing.

Maybe reduce some of the higher tier points while giving more points to low/midrange racers. For example –
Reduce the points awarded for reaching specific levels by 1 point.
Award 1 point to any player that performs a full clear of rocky climb.

Or they can have guaranteed low tier currency rewards for passing a level threshold. For example-
Any player that reaches level 13 in a one hour race gets a full stack of wisdom scrolls.

Or temporary one time use version of cosmetic items. For example
Any player that reaches level 10 in a one hour race gets a crimson weapon effect that last 2 hours.

The race system sucks. I've said this since the beginning of CB. Ooooh, I get to race to western forest AGAIN! How fun!
