Experience loss driving some players away?

I'm for EXP loss, it's needed so you can't/are discouraged from just death-rushing everything. I do think it could be tweaked to be a little more forgiving. Say in Merci, 1st death = 0%, second death = 5%, third = 10%, 4th = 15%, 5th = 20%. Have it be on a timer that resets every dunno, 12 hours or so.

One or two deaths in a play session isn't going to suck that much, but if you end up death zergging and dying several times in a map / boss / whatever - then it's still going to sting.
Think the best possibility to solve this problem is to create another league for players who want to play without experience penalties.

My 5cents to this point. :D

Subjective Impressions

It didn't always used to be this way, by the way. For some reason, when the open beta hit, they decided to to lean a bit more towards high incoming damage. The game has gotten harder in a variety of ways, with nerfs to various OP builds that existed in various forms during the CB. I can't say that those are wrong or right, but increasingly the available rofl stomp builds are now less and less.

It doesn't already - I'm just telling you that even if we were both playing Default, you won't play with me - you won't see me - I will have literally zero impact on your life in this game.

It comes down to people being uncomfortable with other players being different than they are. It's like with religion. You want other people to share yours, and in the worst of human circumstances, you put them out of their misery when they don't. Sad that we are that way, but we are. Collectively.

I said to my friend "you played D2 and loved it, and it had 5-10% exp penalties on death" and his response was "there are many more choices of games to play now. Back then, there were not."

Go play some CoD with him then.

Softcore versus Hardcore? Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that an HC character dying at level 70 is less of a loss (time-wise) than a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+.

Yeah, and when you die in Hardcore on Level 97 its 1000 times as much as dying on level 32 in Softcore! ... Point is?

A death penalty makes the game NO harder. It is applied after the death as a 'fuck you'.

This game is already chock full of intense grinding. To have a penalty that says "Hah hah, no you have to grind even more" is just dumb, IMO.

Also, how can one possibly 'lose' experience?

Just by reading your comment I feel like I lost a lot of experience

Softcore is only for learning the game and fun. I suggest everyone play it when they start, because you will die, and ot will help you understand why. Your first few character builds will probably be crap, but thats fine. Play the game in softcore for a few months, years, or even til your done playing poe, but anything outside hardcore just doesnt count to me. I havent gotten too far in hardcore, but the point is that I die, learn, and rebuild. If sc had a 100% exp loss on death I wouldnt care.. Dont die.

Please tell me what build you mainly play. I do not think the game is really that creative at the moment.

I play various builds. The one I logged out with is my (2nd) dual EK totem witch ;)

When the monster power system was introduced in Diablo 3 people asked why the monsters life increases so disproportionately to their damage.

Jay Wilson answered: Because it is more fun to increase your characters damage than trying to get the last tenth percent damage mitigation out of your character.

Say what you want about D3 but in that point he was absolutely right. Not only that the great passive tree in poe is a complete farce as you will only search for the shortest path to the next HP node, the game forces you too much into a defensive playstyle.

what a bunch of useless bullshit guy plays one month another useless streamerfanboy parrot

seriously scrubcores complain that they get punished by 15% exp loss ?
can you even imagine how boring a game would be with no punishment at all
i would make a ranger give him 1600% crit multiplier and call it a day (yes noobs thats easily possible)

i really loved the locust analogy someone mentioned here casuals are like locusts they fuck up the game with shitty suggestion to have a more convienient game then they get bored and move on to the next game and fuck it up with dumb suggestions and leave the rest of us with their shitty version of a good game
pargaon diabloic maschine hellfire rings sms notifications for uniques and so on inst it enough that you already destroyed one game ......

you should lose a whole lvl and a random item on death THEN YOU CAN CRY ME A RIVER or learn to build a balanced champ
