Experience loss driving some players away?
I still say there should be a softcore league with no expiration called "tourist" which has no penalties, and which has no ranking or status in any way. Then old guys like me can solo in tourist mode to our hearts content without making the game "worse" for the lrn2play and/or hardcore crowd.
Seems win/win to me. |

" Sorry but i think you are completely wrong, just projecting your own preferences into other people and targeting to get the game changed the way you want it to be. Everyone i know who likes PoE, likes the game for the fact that it is not completely dumbed down, that it is rather complex and difficult. Unlike other games from this genre. This is what makes PoE special. Not 10 million dollar budget cinematics like in some blizzard game or whatever. If GGG starts to water PoE down for the casuals they destroy what makes this game special, will not only loose a substantial part of their playerbase, but also set themselves in more direct competition vs. other companies. If someone reaches his limit at lvl 86 or whatever cause he keeps on dieing too often to level further. Grats. Well played till this point in game. Obviously not as well as other people who manage to level even further. Working as intended i guess. Warbands IGN:

players with good gear die mostly because of desync.
other players die because they are struggling with the difficulty already. in both cases, xp penalty is just an extra punishment when it's already frustrating. |

" WoW stopped rising since Wotlk. You should not bring an example of something that you dont understand or have any relevant informations at all. The game had the biggest rising in the period where they did the excat opposite of what they are doing now. WoW is stagnating since Wotlk. Since it became world of casualcraft, world of softcore, Scrub of Warcraft and so on and on Just to give you my point of view. Play carefull. And you just loose a bit XP I am totally shocked. If I die my whole progress and Items on this char are gone. So maybe you should be glad that you just loose a bit XP what is just time. And most of the time people are dieing to shit they don't understand. Youtube is full of Softcore Streamers that die to obvious shit and if they would care more about the game they would just not die. ps: If you want a brainless game here is a pro tip: 2 Games for the casuals that just dont want to learn a game :)

" Softcore players are using it too and are still crying because of penalty ^^ GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" Not quite the same though is it. You're talking about a game with a subscription that cost many many millions to make. Tailoring "to the largest audience possible" is not the aim of PoE. They make it very clear they would like to aim at a different crowd to the more casual games out there. " Not exactly how i would look at it. Its like a restaurant called "Only Really Spicy Food" and then people go in and complain their food is spicy. " There are plenty of threads on this so im not going to go into it, but i would remind everyone the endgame content will be continuously added over the lifetime of the game. Chill and wait and see what's released. I simply cannot get my head round the fact people refuse to have choice in the gaming marketplace. There are sooooooo many games already filling the suggestions you made, yet you seem to want to make everything generic. Just for try for see and for know -2013! She corpse exploded the corpse of the boss... Last edited by Zanixx#5803 on Jun 18, 2013, 6:14:16 AM

I just dies like 10 times in cruel act 2/western forest.
All that did for me was to take a harder look at my stats, my gear and my skills to see how I can better handle certain situations. I'll probably go farm some more to gain a little more experience or gear and try that area again. Loss of experience, to me, at my level ( around low 40's) is just an incentive to try to figure out a better balance for my character. I have no ill will with the way it is set up. The way I see it is that I have paid $10.00 towards this game for some extra tabs and that is it. I have paid 6 times that amount for games that I have enjoyed less. | |
BTW I talked to Keigh, the guy who was #2 on the ladder just a few days ago with his blender duelist. He quit playing because he was 1-shotted by the ranged attack of the L72 Mine Map Boss (a copy of Fidelitas, so lightning damage). He had roughly 3K hits, 13K armor, 75% lightning resists and was at 16K damage; a melee character.
While I understand map bosses are designed to be tough, a L85 toon shouldn't be 1-shotted by bosses like this. At L85 one death is about 6-8 hours of gameplay I believe. Now think about this - at level 85 the only way to get good experience is to do maps. But what happens when you can get 1-shotted by the bosses of the maps that you need to do to progress? Why even play? Granted one can skip the map bosses, etc. the simple factor is losing such a large amount of time and effort is not "fun" at all. Makes me wonder how many other high level players have "rage quit" a character in addition to Keigh... All that and a bag of chips!
