Launch Date and World of Warcraft

Related to both of your queries/points, a single observation: the last time GGG really displayed that 'brilliance under pressure' was possibly the early days (CB) when Diablo was the assumed king of the ARPG hill and PoE the Little Upstart That Could, and here we are saying, one way or another, that same pressure may return but under the exact opposite circumstances -- Diablo is now the competition that might wake the sleeping, complacent hydra.

I suggest we all take just take a moment to *really* appreciate that.

Because wow.

Spoiler
As opposed to WoW, which is sort of the opposite of wow these days.

This technically wraps it up...WoW right is his own biggest enemy...No other MMO Rpg competes with it ( while others are ok and fun , WoW will be WoW.) it still manages to kill himself expansion after expansion...

You can see a pattern in POE also, league after league, instead of improving something that finally shattered the Diablo 2 legacy and even won against Diablo 3, they somehow manage to kill itself with bad decision over bad decision...

Sum it up, POE like WOW it's, it's biggest enemy..Once diablo 4 launches, and probably won't suck, GGG will have 2 alternatives, release the long awaited POE2 that might compete, or bite the dust...Seeing how things work, they will just bite the dust and do whatever the left over community wants just to pay the bills...

You know, like a bum that stood in the lights and after years of "good decisions" ended up begging for money but still doesn't realize what he did wrong and blames society and others.

I thought Blizzard was rock bottom, but lately GGG proves me that it can always be worse. At least Blizzard scores millions of sales , while GGG , let's put it in the wise words of H&S "we don't need a bigger audience"

I hope to God D4 won't be bad because technically if we are stuck in this brainless limbo we call PoE we will have to pay IQ points for playing every half baked league that brings nothing new just nerfs to ...ahem ahem "keep it fresh".
Never invite Vorana, Last To Fall at a beer party.

Maybe but I doubt it.

If 'might' becomes 'will' then everyone wins. I'm a fan of everyone winning, especially when 'everyone' means 'both sides of a fence that exists largely as a result of hype and constant reinforcement of tribalism'.

And hey, WoW players already won: they migrated to Eorzea or Tyria, and tmk there is no real rivalry or either/or when it comes to XIV and GW2. Both MMOs but built very, very differently -- with at least one helmed by a dude who is more than happy to see players take a break between big updates rather than start to resent his baby from burnout. And unless you really invest in the fashion game of GW2, it's a spectacularly casual game experience in the best of ways. Again, benefits of being a premium MMO (buy to play at the very least) is you don't have to constantly scramble to find ways to keep people focused on your game only. You can be confident that the game speaks for itself.

Although that new GW2 ad asking 'why wait for your dragon?' is amusingly on the snout. Conveniently ignores that of all the 'mandatory' grinds of GW2 (with expansions installed), the Skyscale is easily the longest and most involved. WoW players, on the other hand, will only need to hit level 30 or somesuch. Which, in itself, screams of desperation to me, but eh, there are legitimate arguments for either approach. I certainly didn't feel awesome or amazed after my Skyscale in GW2 finally finished being a little shit -- I felt about as close to a real-life parent as I'd like to get, and even then I knew it wasn't a thousandth of it. Although I imagine most parents don't have to chase their obnoxious little toddler all over the world and coax it down from literal mountaintops.

AMYWAY, where were we? oh yeah. WoW? LOL.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Getting pre raid BiS gear and full m0 mythics in Wow usually takes around ~2 weeks. After that it's just maintenance and farming consumeables for raids.

I think the League is pretty well timed. The wow classic release was much more brutal for PoE since just leveling to 60 was such a commitment and you didn't have time for other games.

Modern Wow lets you level up, gear up, fix your professions, play all mythic dungeons and stock up on consumables pretty fast which results in a downtime between when the first raid, M+ dungeons and Arenas open and when you're finished gearing. This is a good time to for GGG release the new league.

Sure, it would have been better if they waited longer for the Wow hype to die down, which it will in ~2 months when people start getting burned out and chasing the MMO dragon yet again, isn't working. But I think GGG want to put the disaster that is 3.19 far behind them as that league has made GGG look incompetent.
