Another big streamer upset with D4's greedy Monetization plans = EASY POE 2 WIN
" In fact PoE had closed beta keys for purchase before release as early access. And it has a cash shop, and a battle pass. But apparently, having an entry cost of $60 is too much for the F2P monetization crowd to bear. It's simply a joke that in 2022 $60 is a gatekeeper for the thousands people spend on F2P games like PoE. Its such an irrelevant, low brow argument imo. It's fucking optional, just like PoE's $68 dollar armor sets, and $30 battle pass. Also idk how most people feel, but personally pumping out mtx for buffed skills, only to nerf them (so you purchase the next set), is shady as fuck on GGG's end. ". It's sad "ppl like you" have zero business sense. Games have been $50-$60 for like 30 years. Development costs, publishing cost, distribution costs all have skyrocketed. AAA games should actually retal for like $100, but the poor teenagers on social media, and edgy content creator thumbnails in YouTube would be unmanageable. Making the arguement that pricing should never go up because reasons, is not really worth arguing. If $60 is a dealbreaker for you, please re-evaluate your financial situation, and think long and hard about your PoE support far beyond that. That's not a "sad future", people spending thousands on a F2P, supporting a Chinese Megacorp, is far more alarming than D4 at normal retail with optional mtx. Jesus. Better hope Tencent doesn't crack the whip after posting its first ever quarterly year-on-year revenue decline.
Tencent missed both revenue and profit forecasts. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/08/17/tencent-earnings-q2-chinese-tech-giant-posts-first-ever-revenue-decline.html/url Gutting Gameplay Gradually

" Nice troll. I'm not a fanboy. I've spent over $3k on PoE, and D4 wont even ever get a fraction of that. It's all optional, so stop crying about the "future of gaming". It makes you look super naive. $60 MEANS NOTHING. And if it does, people should stick to F2P games, or invest their real life time better. That's my suggestion. " How do you expect games to provide future content and patches if you aren't willing to shell out money to support a team to continue to work on the game? Do you really think they make enough money off initial sales to support a game for 5+ years of content? Because that's the expected model nowadays. People want seasonal ladders. They want new content and patches to shift metas around. You can't get this without some form of revenue stream in place. So what's your poison? Do you want a monthly subscription like MMOs? Do you want MTX and loot box skins? Do you want them to put every new content behind a paid expansion? You can't just buy a game and expect them to work on it for free. Look at Diablo 2. They had paid expansions. No MTX or cash shop. But you notice how little content was added to the game not including LoD or the D2R release? We'd get minor tweaks to bugs and balance here and there. They added some reskinned uber bosses and a few new items here and there. They did less in 10 years of their cycle as PoE does in one league. So yes, I'd rather pay $60 for a game, and maybe buy a $15 battle pass 2-3 times a year than buy a $60 game every year like your FPS and sports games do. |

Why are people is such a rush to play poe 4.0? When it comes it comes. In the mean time, get out and enjoy life.

What we learned from the other thread: It's totally OK for D4 to have as aggressive monetization as PoE, even though it is a fully priced game - because it's "Diablo" and "Blizzard". The monetization is only a point of critique in PoE, not in D4. Plenty of people that are critical to PoE's monetization were defending it in the other thread.
So I see no logic, and it's probably not worth debating again. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
