The One Reason, I think PoE 2 may do better then Diablo 4.

They'll both be fine. Seriously, what's the point of the debate?

But if you're going to seriously compare the two, it probably should be the POE franchise against the Diablo franchise. Diablo 4 will have a main release, and probably several smaller expansions like they did with previous titles. It will go into low level maintenance mode for years, and then be overtaken by Diablo 5, where the cycle will begin again.

The Diablo franchise will just keep going using a model that works well for them. POE will do the same using a model that works well for them.

They don't really compete on the same playing field anymore from my optic. One updates slowly and is more casual. The other updates constantly and changes dramatically in short periods of time. One targets casual players, one targets less casual players.

Sure, they both share the ARPG label, but I feel like their overlap is decreasing with each release. Hell, D4 is an open world game. If anything, it's starting to compete more in the MMORPG realm rather than pure ARPGs. Maybe the main competitor will be WoW? :)

Either way, they'll both be fine, and that's good for everyone.

I wish both games well. & agree both games are prob going to both be successful.

I don't believe Diablo 5 is gonna happen as some sort of expectation that Blizz just keeps making Diablo games. If d4 is good & not p2w, then they'll remain with d4 for 10 years.

Ye Diablo 3 was bad so they made Diablo 4, tho wasn't like for some EA Madden reason or some repeat title. Simply d3 was bad now d4. Maybe with new devs for d4 too.

Theirs no WoW 2 yet & WoW still has expansions. Ultimately I find the road map feature list the #1 reason for who gains players. Which team has a better vision board this next year.

diablo 4 on release day at best case scenario gonna have 1/10 of the content what PoE have and its still not known if they will even add content in diabnlo 4 after the launch but knowing bli$$ard there will be only dlc and no free content updates every several months so in the end its gonna be just as terrible as diablo 3 you will get only new season with item number changes and nothing else and the worst part is that even after all of this theres still gonna be 10x times more people playing diablo 4 than path of exile becuz bli$$ard have brainwashed their fanbase

If POE 2 has similar D4 feature road maps, once again, they'll gain d4 players. If not, they won't. It's probably the easiest ever to impress mmo players, theirs nothing to play mmo wise. Reason for mmo players praising POE here or there.

How is POE 2 going to impress D4 players, how indeed.
People want a better version of Lost Ark tbh. So what's better than Lost Ark since LA wasn't good enough? That's the money question.

PoE 2 will be the better game by miles.

Diablo 4 will make more money and have far more players the first few months.

It’s the power of name recognition and AAA advertising budgets.

Thinking a large PoE expansion will be a better game than a next-gen Diablo by miles...is...well maybe some copium/ hopium given your sunken cost situation?

I personally have no doubt that on the surface during the release year. Diablo 4 will undoubtly be the better game on multiple fronts. However due to how Blizzard always abandons Diablo, it will die out due to lack of updates. POE will continue standing. Longevity makes for a better overall game.
Except Diablo 4 has been designed from the ground up to be a live service game with frequent content updates. They will sell you a copy of the game for $60 or $70, but then the game will also have a full MTX store to support future "free" content updates. These are meant to come in seasonal updates much like PoE.

D3 was designed to be an old school box and expansion game, they never planned to do free content updates. People demanded it, they tried to shift some of their focus to that, but it was never really in the cards. Blizzard moved away from that style of game at that point, with Hearthstone, Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm, all live service games. D3 was 10 years ago, Blizzard doesn't do games like that any more, unfortunately.

I would have preferred if they went in the opposite direction, dropped the always online BS and embraced the modding community once again. That's what made D2 special and gave it longevity, and why nobody is talking about D2R anymore.

I don't think D4 is going to do worse than PoE, I don't think that's possible just based on the mainstream nature of it and the advertising power of ActiBlizz and Microsoft. I do think D4 isn't going to do as well as expected, but more because Blizzard has lost the faith and respect of gamers over the past few years and many people just aren't going to buy it.

I think there is a massive disconnect between what people appear to say, and be outraged about on social media, and the actual realities of people's personal purchase decisons.

It's very cool to hate on Diablo Immortal for example, yet the numbers are strangely quite good. Its seems the vocal minority like to have their voices heard, but overall people just dont give a shit what influencers are yelling about, or what edgy game journalists write. They like what they like.

Just checked Twitch Numbers.

Rn roughly 480 people watch D:I. (~250 of those on one channel that seems obviously belong to a credit-card-hero)

Even totally bad and uninteresting more-than-offseason-PoE has ~ 1.9k viewers. (biggest channel 215)

Yea, numbers are "quite good".

"Disconnect", "yelling influencers", "edgy game journalists" - lmao

Oh, and a fact: Blizzard dudes themselves said that over 50% of D:I players are new to the franchise. Ofc they dont give a shit - they dont have a clue.

You realize PoE 2 is same thing like PoE right? theres gonna be the same content in it what PoE have GGG was adding content every 3 months for like 10 years now so it doesnt matter if diablo 4 is completely new game it gonna have 1/10 of content what PoE has to offer and the next gen diablo isnt gonna be anything amazing its gonna be p2w with no new content only dlc in fact they have never given any free content in diablo games before only dlc so yeah you should be naive to think diablo 4 is gonna be something mindblown or new

It's a MOBILE GAME. Stop being obsessed with Twitch, YouTube, or whatever your favorite influencer tells you.

Its earned 100M in 8 weeks, and has surpassed 30 million downloads. It's not even fully out in China as well.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not playing DI or have any interest, but there is no point in being a clueless hater when the numbers are smacking you in the face. And I love how you think "new players" are a bad thing. Jesus fuck man.

Again, influencers saying DI was a shitshow nightmare, yet BLizzard is shrugging based on what they are seeing. There is certainly a lot of "talk", but mobile gamers gonna game it seems.

DI stats are irrelevant, games journalists tried to push it for years about them being the same because it made great clickbait and headlines but phone games are their own demographic, completely different requirements, different audience.
