Four reason i think Diablo IV migh have the edge against poe(2)

While I think I tend to agree with the vague push back (as of page 1, have not read further) to the OP (or however you want to put it), I see something in them (and will likely find in increasing amounts as the pages go on) that is typical and just a form of lying to make PoE seem more than it is in practice.

"PoE puts all other aRpg's to shame in build diversity" Does it really? If I need list the builds that do all/nearly-all content in D4 (in the future), in whatever stands as the current balance of PoE, and the current/final version of Grim Dawn - I don't really see any of those games in actually winning there. (if you think so, I can imagine you don't actually know that other game well enough to even talk about it, like all those many PoE players who never got much beyond Act 1 of GD but talk about it anyway).

IF you simply mean whatever can finish the campaign - ok, then I doubt the difference between numbers is enough to make that statement with this reduced requirement either. Many things in these other games can also just complete the campaign once.

If we are going to talk classes or skills in terms of diverse setups (per class or skill) - well, yes, PoE wins there IN THOERY, but again, if it just means no actually better number of builds at end of campaign or at level 95 - who cares?

Like many things in this game, people think the illusion is reality.

GGG doesn't explain something players have to figure out and people call that depth (it isn't, and it never was).

GGG has current balance make the total possible build number drop to like 12 actual - it sure looks like anything is possible, but not really, mostly nothing is possible (all so GGG can move the meta around to keep people coming back after not much else changes to try out perhaps a somewhat different collection of a dozen builds).

All this did was give them the ability to hook people for longer, and some people, for some reason, like being able to play roughly the same game for 10+ years - and I have no idea why.

The aRPG genre, and you who read this, would have been better off if they had stopped dev of PoE1 and done a true sequel five years ago.

But I digress - PoE is not what people claim it is, and its mostly not even better in those ways than the competition at any given time because whatever the current balance is, it won't let its systems achieve that.

If you are ok with that, that is fine, whatever, I too am still playing the game (of course, my brain is broken, what is YOUR excuse) - but dont sit here and lie to yourself and the rest of us about how "diverse" this game is.

It could be, but at no given time will it actually ever be.

PS - Diablo's 3 loot is boring (Vs GC or PoE), that is for sure, but PoE's current thing, while deeper, has its own issues that GGG doesn't seem to want to fix. I think GD strikes the correct balance, given you can only care about half the stats and still use the item in end game given the power of what is there (but in PoE, forget it, you, at best, can only have one wasted stat, maybe).

This applies to GGG and PoE too - perhaps you dont need to buy it, but a game doesnt need to cost money to be a slap in the face.
You just have to look at Diablo Immortal. The absolute money sink it is, to know D4 will be absolute trash as well. There is no way D4 will not implement the Diablo Immortal monetization, since it is working so good in DI .

Just about every gamer in the world will buy it and play it. It's Diablo... come on. It's a cult classic, but as soon as you hit that inevitable paywall, 99% will be back . That is just the law of inevitability.

for one thing, it's unlikely that either D4 or POE2 will come out in the next 5 years anyways.

Another thing, blizzard has no soul anymore and they do not care about making great games anymore. In fact, making a truly great game is probably bad for business now. They don't want games that people will play long term, that costs them more money and they spend more money on advertising and probably psychiatric stuff like how to convince people to buy more microtransactions than they do on development.

It's no contest what will be the better game.

We are getting D4 in 2023, and likely a beta version very soon. They just had a friends and family alpha version, so development is definitely in the latter stages.

PoE 4.0? Well it's clear they are working at a breakneck pace, and I think the D4 progress caught them a bit off guard. Probably 2 more years for that to be fully released. (Chris casually mentioned approx 9 leagues during the last livestream with Ziggy, which is like 27-28 months give or take)

Maybe we get a PoE 4.0 beta sooner than that 2 year timeframe as I'm sure they would like a couple of leagues to hash out any mechanical changes.

Either way, both D4 and PoE 4.0 will be out way sooner than 5 years.

Its hard for me to not think OP is a paid comment. Like the fucking guy talked about cinematic quality writing from blizzard? As if we didn't all play D3.

I can understand people saying the STORY of path of exile can be convoluted but the writing and voice acting is top tier and I can only imagine someone who likes marvel movies can think otherwise.

While its possible that d4 could be fun just as d3 is fun for about a 3 days, it will only edge out PoE(anything) for extreme casuals. Blizzard has proven time and again they pander to instant gratification casuals with extremely streamlined systems and most likely pay to win.

This is why I think OP is a paid comment because you have to ignore everything GGG and Blizzard have done in the last 10 years to think D4 will be better.

Yes PoE is bloated and the developers have become unresponsive. Not surprising considering these forums are filled with people constantly trying to extort their desired changes for their continued playtime.

I agree with some things like why havent they buffed the shit out of skills that make you vulnerable to compensate for dangerous playstyle. But Blizzard is one million times worse for every complaint you have in path of exile without having the redeeming quality of being able to make an actual build.
I have never said Diablo IV will be better, even the thread says four reason D4 MIGHT be better. I don't know for sure, obviously.

I just hope for the best and don't insist that a game i have never played / hasn't even come out yet 100% certainly sucks. Like wheres the logic in that?

You can say it might suck because it's Activision or because Diablo Immortal etc. you have good reasons to think it might be bad but it's impossible to be 100% sure at this point.

Just call me optimistic or whatever but i rather just hope Diablo 4 will be good instead of saying it sucks before it comes out.

Diablo 4 isn't just the next best ARPG, it's the next best MMO. So whoever is waiting, is waiting.

The Timeline of mmo fans goes like this: WoW Classic - > Quit WoW Classic - > Doesn't test New World - > Tests Final Fantasy Online quit 1 day later for being too similar to classic wow - > Test Lost Ark quit 1 or 2 months later for p2w or game play limits.

Then you have Path of Exile or Planetside 2. Theirs literally nothing else, just proved this. So what are 20 to 40 million mmo players playing? Absolutely nothing. Asmon hasn't main'ed a mmo for 3 months. Lazy Peon ran out of good games to review 2 years ago, & Josh Strife is almost out of old mmo's to troll review.

So they steer POE 2 to 20 to 40 million potential mmo players or has to stay at 80 thousand or less arpg single players.

Which would be fine to stay simple, if the mmo market had something unique to play. & streamers weren't reviewing POE once per month. Yet their isn't anything out for 2 years & they are mentioning poe often. Both game have a lot of players to gain, tho Blizzard is the only one who plans for features aware of this.

The problem with blizzard is lackluster expansions, ignoring pvp equality maps or skills, & rehashing the same reskinned dungeons over & over. Dragonflight isn't gonna save them, barely has any features besides dragon flying, not good enough.

So between League patches & WoW expansions, both teams need to listen to their players to find out how to update their games better. With proper hype. POE talks to mmo reviewers about arpg things, how well is that truly working for attaining new players. Seems the trick isn't just talking to mmo streamers about single player features. I suggest using keywords that are going to get them, to keep talking about poe weeks later.

keywords: " party maps " " healer gems " " boss dodge mechanics " " pvp guild verse guild castle sieges " " bigger towns " " endgame exploration open zones " " traveling npc maps " " strategy skill rotation " " lore overhaul side quests for acts " " rp taverns with instrument notes " " slow story immersion for parties " " make the towns alive " keywords that get preach, asmon, josh, or lazypeon to rereview peo for a 2nd time or video. POE would require 2 league updates of similar features requested first, for Lazy Peon for example to make a 2nd POE vid. & yes without Lazy Peon bringing attention to another 400,000 people about poe, without that, then ye expect less pop & expect a delayed poe 2.
100 people towns with hang out fields. Witcher taverns. Free hair style options. IRO War of Emperium gvg map.

However d4 will end up being, lets pause for a moment to thank it/blizzard for fishing away all those MMO-players that otherwise might end up trying PoE 2/4.0, and would then flood the forums with even more of these "PoE needs more MMO-features"-posts.

I am actually much more hyped about Diablo 4 for these reasons:

- Diablo IV is completely new game / complete sequel and PoE 2 is just and uber expansion with completely new campaign but same-ish end game (so the most important part of any Diablo like aRPG)

- I feel PoE in its current state already have too much content, or like some like to say it's "bloated", getting completely new and fresh game with good foundation to add more content after it's release is better than to just to add more to a bloated game, path of exile 2 would be much better as a completely new and fresh game.

- Graphics seems MUCH better already in the alpha gameplay of Diablo IV footage than anything i have ever seen in path of exile and Blizzard is known to have quality optimization for their games while path of exile can lag with 10k gaming computer for absolutely unknown reasons, and while i know graphics is really low priority to some people i think they are important to the game.

- Story that actually seem interesting. An other thing blizzard is known for is high quality Cinematics and hollywood lever screenwriting while im pretty sure most people dont care about the story of path of exile.

So those are my four reasons why i personally am more exited about Diablo IV but as long as there are not going to be any p2w and only MTX stuff that is allowed is going to be cosmetic, so similar to path of exile (but hopefully not real money gated content like leagues or QoL improvements like premium stash tabs) i think Diablo IV will be an awesome game but ofc i hope PoE 2 will also be an awesome game and maybe even better than Diablo IV... only time will tell i guess.

I can't disagree. Clearly D4 is going to be a much bigger game than POE2, just look at the budget or number of people working on it. POE is really just a walking simulator, I don't see POE2 being any different. The fun in a POE league comes from making builds before the league is launched not playing the game itself.
We already know support gems like GMP are in POE2 so it will still be speed meta, IE walk around while everything dies withing 2-3 screens of me.
