Four reason i think Diablo IV migh have the edge against poe(2)
I am actually much more hyped about Diablo 4 for these reasons:
- Diablo IV is completely new game / complete sequel and PoE 2 is just and uber expansion with completely new campaign but same-ish end game (so the most important part of any Diablo like aRPG) - I feel PoE in its current state already have too much content, or like some like to say it's "bloated", getting completely new and fresh game with good foundation to add more content after it's release is better than to just to add more to a bloated game, path of exile 2 would be much better as a completely new and fresh game. - Graphics seems MUCH better already in the alpha gameplay of Diablo IV footage than anything i have ever seen in path of exile and Blizzard is known to have quality optimization for their games while path of exile can lag with 10k gaming computer for absolutely unknown reasons, and while i know graphics is really low priority to some people i think they are important to the game. - Story that actually seem interesting. An other thing blizzard is known for is high quality Cinematics and hollywood lever screenwriting while im pretty sure most people dont care about the story of path of exile. So those are my four reasons why i personally am more exited about Diablo IV but as long as there are not going to be any p2w and only MTX stuff that is allowed is going to be cosmetic, so similar to path of exile (but hopefully not real money gated content like leagues or QoL improvements like premium stash tabs) i think Diablo IV will be an awesome game but ofc i hope PoE 2 will also be an awesome game and maybe even better than Diablo IV... only time will tell i guess. Actually not wrong.
The brand new, fresh game is extremely appealing. PoE is absolutely too bloated. The moves they've made to let you focus in on some mechanics more then others is good, but the idea that playing a brand new game like D4 comes with wanting to do every bit of content it has, even if that's only because it doesn't have very much at launch, *feels* better then trying to actively lessen how much content I do in PoE. Some of the newer maps in PoE I think look really good. But that's thrown to the wayside with just how BAD so much of the game looks now. Graphics don't have to be realistic, but the lighting is what's super important (at least to me), and so much of PoE is just washed out and flat. And out of these four story is probably the most subjective, but I tend to agree that even if diablo's story is much simpler, I'm just actively more curious about it then PoE's. Maybe it's the setting? I've never cared for any Roman era themes / gods. But heaven / hell and demonic forces are cooler to me then 'whelp another god like space being wants to hop over to not-earth'. |

To me the biggest fear (besides the possibility of p2w shittery) is that the character customization will be as bland and boring like in pretty much all diablo games.
Basically equip the best legenday/set items for the character and you are done, at least in poe you feel like there is always something better to have if you just farm hard enough. So yeah i really hope they make characters much more interesting to create in diablo IV and i actually think biggest positive path of exile have against Diablo is character customization. |

The only things that matter for me are:
- depth of itemization - depth of character building - depth of content Blizzard is not the company that makes games that have such things. Its basicaly against their core design philosophy. Are you guys seriously expecting a deep complex character building system in D4? Its most likley "take skill X and Y and max them out, the rest of the points go into HP/defense". |

" This! There are PLENTY of good action games out there with smooth graphics. If I just want to pick a skill or two and slay monsters, I'm sure Diablo 4 will be a fantastic game. In Diablo 3, skills+class=build, because your choices beyond picking a skill and a class, are VERY limited. And what is the result? The most boring itemization in the world. Luckily for Diablo 4, it seems like the new paragon boards will help with character customization/specialization. But if we're still looking at itemization dumbed down to "offense" and "defense", I will still be playing PoE when Diablo 4 launches. I really, REALLY want Diablo 4 to be good. I just think Blizzard as a company is too hellbent/forced/dependent on targeting/appealing to the most casual of casuals, so depth goas out the window. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

For better or worse Diablo has always been more casual friendly and dont have many complex mechanics like in path of exile but i hope they really improve character customation to something more advanced in Diablo 4
Revealing that they are completely overhauling the paragon system to something moere interesting gives me some hope for Diablo 4 being more complex game than previous versions are. |

" Keep in mind that D2's character creation and WoW at launch (when everything was more sandbox like) are the most complex character building systems Blizzard has ever released. Those two systems are still super shallow compared to almost all other games in those genres. I doubt that this company will all of a sudden make a u-turn and create a complex and open character building system. |

One reason I think Diablo 4 will be meh
Blizzard is trash. The only hopes for the company is if it is bought out and restructured like crazy |

Every single time I've told myself that I cannot make my build any better or more efficient. I've been wrong every single time.
Whenever we get a new unique, new influence or any new toy I immediately try to see how it'll benefit an aurastacker in any way. The rush of collecting an insanely rare unique or hitting my prefixes and suffixes on an item is bonkers addicting. I hope the best for Diablo 4, and I hope you truly love it and that it lives up to your expectations or exceeds it, but I doubt any game can ever come close to how addicting PoE is to me. I love endless grinds and PoE in SSF is an endless grind ;) <3. |

You forget that core gameplay mechanics will be overhauled in poe 2. Its not just a new campaign. Also a big plus is that we get to keep all our bought mtx.
There are too many stats on items that do basically the same thing or make no significant impact. Also too many league specific currency items. Now that we can choose what to do, there cant be too many gameplay mechanics though. There is waaayy more going on in poe. Obviously performance will be worse when you have 50+ enemies on screen spamming spells but its not nearly as bad as some are claiming. My 8 year old mid range pc had solid 60fps when not in extreme situations. In diablo you are moving slower, slapping one enemy at a time and not dashing around nearly as much. Just compare the gameplay trailers. For me they visually look about the same thanks to PBR but lighting is more interesting in D4. Constant glow around the character in poe 2 kinda kills the mood in dungeons. I know that my character is in the center of my screen so no need for that. Animations look snappier in poe 2 which will probably make it feel better to play. D4 will be open world. I dont expect the same focus on story. A good story is the reason I played diablo and also why I dropped it right after finishing. Endgame is so boring. Its never been about making builds and finding new item combinations like in poe. |
