The death of PoE is near. Diablo 4 is coming in 2023, before PoE 2!

diablo 1 and 2 are INFINITELY better games than poe and have a score above 90 on metacritic

D2 is okaish nowadays, I wouldnt touch it without one of the big mods. The main game lacks a ton of things people learned to like in modern games.

D2R is cute, it fits the nostalgia bill during the first 20-30 hours but I haven't played it in a while, I hear they've patched some new shit in it which on paper sounds great but somehow I... can't... force myself to give it another go.

The best way imo to play D2 nowadays is median mod and guess what was one of the main inspiration for PoE?

Its free. Its also phone game. 10 milion isntall means nothing if 99.9% decide to uinstall it w/o spending a single penny. The game has literally the lowest user score than any game managed to get in the history of game industry.
But I guess Blizz fanbois will defend even such trash as long its made by Blizard.

Again, no actual point was made. Just a silly attempt at an insult.

PoE is also free. Most players on the F2P carousel likely won't spend anything here either.

I have no love for Blizzard, nor will I ever install DI, doesn't change anything... If overall numbers were good, and showing a positive trend, GGG would show them, with pride. They clearly don't.

"Numbers were good". All you got was numbers of installs. You dont know how many of those people uinstalled that crap after 15 minutes. 10 milion download counting China isnt even taht big. Thats like small town out there.
PoE after 10 years can get 100k+ concurrent players WITHOUT COUNTING CHINA (You know PoE exist in China as well? It probably has 5 times more players playing it out there, but since its separated it doesnt count. Players playing on console doesnt count towards the playerbase either) You compare ALL DOWNLOADS to small portion of concurrent players you can see on steam. Thats just pathethic. Wanna bet how many will DI have after 10 years?
I will answer you. ZERO, because it will be closed after few years max.

More conjecture...

Again, if the numbers were so great, why aren't they showing them?
All we get are "new micro-transaction" tweets.
We don't even get the league stats consistently anymore.

This is boring now, if your take had any validity at all, they would exploit the hell out of it, as would any company, it's a marketing goldmine.

It clearly isn't the case.
^

You aren't asking the right question.

Why would they show numbers?

Numbers are a sales gimmick intended to create the idea that something is good because other people think its good, in my experience it doesn't work however because the ones that tell the truth already have the reputation (like if fortnite did it) and the ones that don't nobody believes (grounded did this at their section in the xbox show and chat spent the next 10 minutes taking the piss out of it).

GGG aren't displaying a game at any trade shows as far as i'm aware but when they stick PoE2 somewhere I wouldn't be surprised to see them put in the most ridiculous number they can tenuously claim is real like everyone else.

The only other use is for stock reports, these tend to be the real ones if you want to dig and go find them but the real ones are always much worse than any flashy number stuck infront of people.

Basically number of installs, especially for something free is completely irrelevant without access to real numbers and interpretation. Just because a public rest stop says 10million dumps taken doesn't mean its a quality establishment everyone wants to go to.

Sometimes you just gotta take a dump.

Yeah, for me, current league looks so dead. Not numbers but balance and new mechs are boring.

But PoE can step up. It's a game of seasons. I think PoE can beat D4 anyway.

PoE is already dead... has been for years... The absolute refusal to listen to their community has alienated the players year on year. It's their own doing. All that remains is a time-sink slot machine.

Do people really think 70/80k(1/4 of which are likely bots) is a success? After all this time?
It's not bad, of course, but it can't compare.

DI is an absolute dumpster fire, however, 10m+ people (literally 100x PoE's player base) installed it within days...

Regardless of what you think, DI is F2P, therefore a direct market competitor to PoE. And it's already won.

Won at what? Being a better game?
PoE isn't dead at all.
Even though i skipped this league because of well mentioned reasons by community, PoE is still by far best game in the genre. Although they've shit the bed with Archnemesis and overall (im)balance i still believe they are the best.

What GGG atm seems to sorely lack is capacity to fight both fronts, current PoE and PoE2. They just can't seem to cover it all effectively at the same time and they've focused on PoE2 mostly on the expense of leagues.
They are surely not sitting on their ass flipping thumbs. They did massive work over the last few years and it surely wont be for nothing.
I see they are constantly hiring new people and it's not easy when they need people on site. Not as simple as being in USA/Europe/China.

Diablo for me is just familiar name atm, it has yet to prove itself and to try to reach the bar PoE has set over the years.
Diablo will prob have 3x more players at launch vs PoE2 but that is hype and marketing.
PoE and GGG have succeeded where Diablo and Blizzard have failed, to be on top over the course of years.

Is D4 going to be closer to D2 or D3? Because for one I'm super interested, but if the other not at all.

Personally it looks like mechanics wise it will be a llllot more similar to d3. I've been reading their dev diaries and it seems clear that they feel they did a great job with diablo 3 and are doubling down on that, using it as a baseline for d4.

A big red flag is that Joe Shely, the game director of D4, used to work as a "designer on multiple World of Warcraft expansions before becoming a senior game designer on Diablo 3.". OOf.

At least the paragon levels look more useful in d4 I'll give them that. Still a joke compared to PoE's trees but hell, it's a step in the right direction.

Last but not least, get a load of this:

"Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a passionate, organized, and driven individual to manage the Diablo IV in-game shop experience," reads a snippet from the job listing. "This role will be a key member of the Diablo IV commercial team. The ideal candidate will combine their experience working in a live service gaming environment with meticulous attention to detail, strong interpersonal communication skills, and passion to delight our players."

Yeah, live service game, fuck their buzz-words, not that PoE isn't turning into one as well, with the kirac battle pass...

The main difference should be that if one pays the upfront 60-70 bucks for Diablo 4, all QOL features should NOT be gated behind a paywall like the stashtabs are for PoE, that's what differentiates the two games.
Second-class poe gamer

I’m a Diablo fan and a POE fan , I’m gonna play both but I can tell with the group content more focused in on D4 me and my wife are gonna play that more. PoE has been far too solo focused, its a area where if they improved could and net a lot more players IMO. Good gameplay loops with reasons to group is where most online players wanna be. PoE could be a “better” Lost Ark and aim at leaning into the MMO front but I doubt that’s what they want to do because Chris is closed minded about MMOs.
Funny ! D4 is dead born, no way he can beat Poe lol, just look their ridiculous passive tree... Like D3 you will play 2 weeks, get quickly bored then uninstal it, they have a huge lack of imagination, even with heavenly design and mtx they will fail.
