I don't think that a "best game ever" exists.

But if you were to ask me if Path of Exile is one of my all-time favorite games, I would answer "yes".
We tested it extensively
It’s definitely in my top 5. “Best” is hard to nail down with so many genres, unique play experiences, and nostalgia related to video game opinions. We are all on this forum talking about POE if that says anything.

Not Even close.

Sacrifice, Gothic 1 and 2, Arx Fatalis, Dark Souls, Morrowind, Evil Islands, Original War, Vampires The Masqarade. We could keep going for a while.

+1 @ Sacrifice. The active community is too small now - totally needs a revival!

his fall was not a small one.
We did but build his pedestal -
a narrow and a tall one.

Gothic 1 and 2 are definitely one of my favourity games... alongside Monkey Island and of course Diablo 2.

But I wouldn't call any of them the best game ever.

The best game would have to be perfect in every aspect... so safe to say, there won't ever be one.

/edit: also, did someone really compare Gothic to an MMORPG?

Only later Everquests were MMORPGs.

I come from the age of 3.5" Floppy D&D and Everquest. Those were single player ARPGs.

I'm so old I played King's Quest series, and games like Sim Zoo or Sim Earth. Syndicate. MegaRace. Urban Assault. God of Thunder. The Incredible Machine.

It wasn't until Warcraft I that I began playing non MS-DOS games. Well.... there was Nintendo, Atari, Game Gear, etc.

It's amazing how many games buried in time were harder than games now.

Hmm, only heard Dark souls of that list (which is obviously worse then PoE). Haven't heard any of the other games, so most likely they are not better than PoE as well.

It only means that you dont know many games. Living under a rock must suck major balls.

Please, don't be so offensive, it makes you look dumb, really dumb. Or maybe you are?...

Why do you think I don't know more games? Just because I don't know some random mediocre games (which I am sure you enjoyed and that is ok), doesn't mean I only know PoE. I enjoyed a lot of games starting from NES, then Sega Mega drive, and the came PC gaming.
Only from PC some games that quickly come to my mind:
Heroes3
Civilization3
Quake 3 arena
Red alert 2 + Yuris revenge
C&C generals
Stronghold crusader
Diablo 2
Starcraft
WoW
Trackmania
Empire earth
Rise of Nations
Lineage2
Caesar3
Counter strike 1.6 + Half life
Return to castle Wolfenstein
Older CoD games
Simcity 2000
Red faction series
Need for speed U + U2 + porshe2000
Cossacks
Tony hawk proskater 4
Mu Online
King of the road
GTA games (vicr city, san andreas, V)

The list just goes on and on and on.
Are these games good? Maybe yes, maybe no. Some of them are all time greats (like heroes3 or Diablo2), some of them I doubt you have ever heard of (civ3, wolfenstein, Mu online, trackmania, etc.). I enjoyed all of them immensily, but PoE is still better than most of them and I am not afraid to admit it. If after 20+ years of gaming I could still find a game that brings new playstyles and hype for me every 3months - well that games is trully goat.
I did download some of then to play a bit in the past 6months, and it was sad that some didn't stand test of time and just wasn't that fun due to being a bit clunky, slow, but then there were these non-dying classics that even 10 or 20+ year old game is still amazing to play.
The winner is, of course, Lemmings!
