Why people dont play on hardcore?
Answer is as simple as:
I (People) value my/their time I could waste hours torturing myself with campaign or I could put same effort into things I don't like just as much such as work. I can suffer and increase my value granitng myself promotion/job change or I can put myself into endless circle of misery playing HC. |

" For sure I'd expect some announcements and/or developer reactions when HC is the core mode of the game and the player base in that mode is thinning each league. I do think it's a good indication that something should have been done with that from developer side. Like at least have someone from GGG go through all of those one shot / unreactable multi-shot situations recorded by some of their tools and make sure this is handled correctly. And yes, for sure this is time consuming, but again HC is the core mode of the game from beginning. MY CHALLENGES ARE DONE ON HC, IT'S NOT SC GUYS! I started a HC character for giggles while waiting for next league. It's stressful! Panicking whenever my life drops below 50% is not fun.
The game itself is of course still fun so I'll probably keep playing it to pass time and get achievements. Softcore is definitely my preference though. Украина в моём сердце

" How is HC the core mode of the game? They don't balance around HC. They don't create incentive to play HC. Nothing about HC makes it the core mode of the game. Please expand on that thought if you can. Asserting it isn't really enough to make it valid. Thanks for all the fish!

I played hardcore for 8 years, had a lot of fun and challenge until the endgame bosses became almost exclusively about instalkills and stages, plus Lab was still a pile of shit.
So I decided to go softcore two years ago to experience all PoE had to offer without concern, hitting up bosses and carefree lab runs and swapping skills/tree/equip with willy-nilly experiments. Plus my wife wasn't going to do the HC thing so it made sense to swap league preference and focus on some duo strategies. My conclusion after doing what I wanted and helping my wife put her builds and efforts into eliminating all endgame content is lab still is a chore of annoyance and endgame stage bosses are not remotely enjoyable to me. I still prefer simply experimenting with my own builds while farming to support trying stuff out without worry of disappearing into SC' each league. I'm the Ps guy: Psomm, Pso, Psong, pso-on and pso-phorth.

because I die far too often and would get frustrated. I dont like to play with constant high tension.

Because the game CONSTANTLY bugs to kill you and basically the only thing that kills you in the game is not errors in the game itself

i played hc until level 70 and finished the acts....i'm guessing the acts are a noob trap and tier 1 maps is where the random 1 shots start?

HC is great fun. I do like the challenge. But it's damn hard.
The key reason I don't play it (often) is that my deaths are usually out of the blue and quite difficult to avoid. And when dying like this, the frustration is extremely high... as after the hours I had invested into the character, I would love to simply respawn, get my revenge, and continue my journey. The experience penalty is enough for a death. Even in SC, dying sucks. |
