Why people dont play on hardcore?
Prolly because most people dont like to waste time. Playing HC feels like good way of wasting time.

How GGG think players feel when they're playing a near death experience

The reality

Realistically they wouldn't be introducing a hard mode if they could really fix HC. GGG have kinda given up on that. Since it would require rebalance of all the game around cancellation of log out macro and one shots.
MY CHALLENGES ARE DONE ON HC, IT'S NOT SC GUYS!

Hardcore has a place, and I enjoy it as a time filler at the end of leagues quite often. But it's too limiting. It's hard to experience new content, particularly when new content usually has at least one mechanic that will instant kill you.
Additionally, it creates incentive around methods of playing that is not for everyone. Grinding content well below your build/level/capability to mitigate any spikes in damage and risk that end your character is not something that will appeal to a lot of people. The limited build choices are also a huge factor. Hardcore does solve, or at least decrease, the constant inflow of items into the economy as it provides a sink for items to go away permanently. I don't know how many people will view that as a positive though. Realistically, until they solve the logout to avoid death and huge spikes in damage, it will never be a popular mode. Thanks for all the fish!

Its popularity has nothing to do with logout and changing damage spikes would completely change the game for SC as well I don't think its something they are looking to "fix".
3.17 was pretty great as far as a HC league went, I don't really know why this thread got necro'd but if players want to play HC they probably do, and if they won't enjoy it they probably don't :p there isn't anything else to it or there shouldn't be. The limits you mention for example Nubatron are exactly why I like it. Really a perfect example of why its right for some and not others. Obviously I'd like more to be possible and there is a difference between build restriction via investment/knowledge and build restriction via mathematical failures but thats splitting hairs. " On the contrary, there is a lot to say. In like past 10 leagues there was not a single post from GGG in announcements to my rememberance talking about HC. Although it's apparent that ratio between SC/HC players has changed significantly in that time period. MY CHALLENGES ARE DONE ON HC, IT'S NOT SC GUYS!

You are going to have to explain what you actually mean, the 10 leagues without mentioning HC is exactly why there isn't much to say.
You want news specific to HC? There won't be any like there isn't any about SSF they are alternate modes for those that enjoy them. |

I don't play HC cause I will be killed at least once in the acts anyhow, and I just don't have the patience to do those acts more than I have to.

No matter how much you invest in defences you will get instakilled out of nowhere sooner or later anyway. And it will happen so fast so you won't be able to react. I play on softcore but I like being tanky. So I prefer building character as for hardcore. Did one really tanky this time with this one . Can facetank Formed/Twisted/Elderslayers/Hidden. Can facetank Sirus' diebeam like it's nothing. Can run inside crowd of mobs on 100% delirium beyond maps and still survive. But anyway last time I was annihilated in less than 1/10 second by some blight mobs offscreen. I was hit like 10-15 times and none of these projectiles were blocked. With 75% block and spell block. On a map which had no damage mods at all as well as no defence breaking ones. 81% cold res (those were ice mobs). I watched some time ago death compilation video by some hardrore player. And many of his deaths were like the one I desribed above. He runs and 1/5 second later he gets hit by multiple projectiles offscreen or from the edge of screen and dies.
Also it should be mentioned that you may die because of technical issues. Game decided to lag for a few seconds or disconnect or freeze or crash. And then you are dead already. I'm not a mazochist. At lest not at such level. Such "one life" mechanics feels far more acceptable in turn based games. Where you have infinite amount of time to think about your next action. You may still be screwed by bad rng but at least there is no random instadeath moments just because nothing can do anything against you until you make next action. |
