POE Heading to D3 Land...please reconsider
This mad thread has some nice points regarding this: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/332230/page/1
So just add some better form of crafting for midgame. Would solve a lot. Maybe make items personalized so they cant be traded? Instead of getting random trash rares for q rewards you would be able to pick mods. Let the item be crafted for you only, for the current lvl, and mods can be -10 lvls (as if the item were lower lvl), but you'd be able to pick em. Obviously some balancing needs to be done, but something in this direction would be really nice. Right now even in a party of 2 HC past act3 cruel is night impossible. You'd have to trade like mad and good items in HC are nonexistant. |

I don't have time to read all 28 pages of this thread.
But; I agree with the OP AND SOLO IS BAD Seriously, i was a solo player, but now i join any and all public parties. The other day i got 3 chaos, 2 rare upgrades, 3 alchemy orbs and a shit tonne of other low orbs (like armor and transmute) all within a hour. - I HAVE NEVER seen/had a similar experience solo, and i feel that i never will. - Join a party and the rares will start flowing It all comes back to the actual elephant in the room ; Solo VS Group. |

Every piece of gear on my character and most gems (except for a few gems like elemental weakness) are self found and I'm farming 66-68 maps right now. It's totally possible to play this game solo and self found.
However now I'm at the point where the only place that I can seem to find upgrades is by crafting or trading. The problem with crafting is I can't find useful orbs to drop. I have 1 alchemy and those are vital in actually making good gear. The rest of the gems I'm trying to hoard so I can trade for upgrades. (if you look at my character I'm using a level 24 scepter on a 72 character...) I've spend 4+ days checking the forums and cruising trade chat for a decent upgrade, but nothing. It's becoming tedious and unfun and I'm quickly losing my interest. This game could definitely use a bigger shift towards self found rares and currency orbs to keep it fresh. I really wanted to play the game with items that I found / crafted myself, but as some gems are "drop only", I cracked and ended up searching for a chain gem in the trade chat.
I ended up paying 2 chaos for one a few weeks back, and since then I have bought a few more items. I dont mind trading for the odd thing, but I think I have had approx 15 chaos drop so far. I dont play a great deal (2 hours a day maybe) but I have 2 characters in Cruel Act 3, and I have got to the point where I need some better equipment. I have not seen a decent 4 link item for a while, and I need to upgrade this desperately :-( I think I might start joining a few parties so far, but in the past I have not had that good a time with loot-ninjas :-/ I still love the game though, and hopefully GGG will find a way to balance the drop rates without killing the economy Last edited by Minsc_N_Boo#6802 on Apr 15, 2013, 9:51:30 AM

" random yes but not entirely random not at all. just read around the forums, you soon see a large number of people who only play solo and have little interest in trade. the dramatisation with using the word "massive" doesn't make what i was considering any less valid as the number would be quiet large even if it turned out to only be 10% hey it was just a passing thought, of course everyone wont agree. but if it was not relatively hard to make such a mode while keeping the online side out of harm from cheaters i really don't see the problem you have. Edit: in-fact this solution would give people like you another cop-out response, every time someone complained about lag or loot you could say something along the lines of "go back to single player solo mode" of course it would be worded more along the lines of scrubcore but w/e oh and since when did general forum posts based loosely on ones own perspective need to be written in an academic style whilst being backed by per reviewed readings? i dare not look at your post history, as im sure youve had nothing more interesting (constructive) to say other than "yawn" btw the fact u forgot to bold "seems to be" tells me you decided to totally ignore the fact i presented it as an assumption. edit 2: wow just 1 post above me (and 4 posts under) is confirmation, i dont have to look far to see others would rather play self found. " All your idea would do is emphasise even more, that the best gear available to anyone at any level is gear that drops in content above them but on gear which isn't above their level in the model, rolls high affixes and is equipable at 80% of max roll level, and is therefore only available to buy. " Did you even think about what you just wrote? Casually casual.

" Haha, I'm self found, too. Gems are the least of the problems (in fact, in comparison, they aren't even a problem). Casually casual. Last edited by TheAnuhart#4741 on Apr 15, 2013, 10:42:20 AM

One thing, I guess, which could be made quite easily is, to fix the progress you´ve made by socketing, fusing, colouring items with inserted gems, therefor one could proceed further with crafting without losing the already desired progress.
So crafting the remaining sockets would still underly a certain randomness, but though you can save a reached progress with the inserted gems it would be less expensive. |
