You have one group that play 4-10 hours a week and you have one group that play 24/7. So no matter what GGG do, they will piss off someone.

GGG made their choice. So the quitting players are the "casual" people who played a few hours a day/week. There is no way for GGG to please both camp, afaik.

dude, what are you talking about? you don't even play the league?
journey to endgame (t14+) is a huge slog if you are playing non-meta skill
most people just quit out of frustration because they can't play interesting builds anymore
the game has died in 3.15
dead game
bring back 3.13

I’m one of those people. Having a desire to play melee or any fun non meta one button build and having the game and playerbase tell me I’m doing it wrong makes me want to say: playing this game is what I’m doing wrong. Cookie cutter or die in a game advertised for its customization is in fact not a good thing.

Don't listen to them. You can beat everything in the game as a melee player. Sure, most weapon scaling builds have a 'later' scaling than gem scaling builds, but they do have a pretty high ceiling. Just takes a bit more investment - and maybe some more knowledge.

And no, I'm not saying melee is "fine" and doesn't need buffs. I'm just saying it's doable and viable. Maybe not competitive, but viable.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Oh, it's viable, just not doable.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

You should really google about confirmation bias.

Which group? The doomsayers or white knights? I would say both…….

The 'white knights' don't make such posts, or even its polar opposite. They merely refute the doomsayers, and get called 'white knights' for it. For instance, this league had the biggest launch numbers yet, but did you see any posts from players about that? But as soon as the numbers go down, we see posts like this. Seems to me like the doomsayers need to undergo bias training more.

Oh, come on now. Let’s at least be honest to some degree with this. There are those at both ends of the spectrum that post nonsense - and we all know it. That is why having a civilized discussion is quite impossible on these forum, as the haters/zealots (if you prefer that term) cannot see the forest for the trees.

And there are posts about high numbers and such, all over the place….and gratz to GGG. But, if as I believe, the only thing that matters is $$$ then most of these “discussions” are just a waste of pixels.
I'm new and maybe that's why I don't understand. I do not play for more than 2-3 hours a day, I play to relax. Why would GGG piss me off?

Find them. Go on. Let's see how many posts you can find gushing over GGG's high player numbers in, say, the last 6 months. And I mean POSTS, not comments that are reacting to posts like this, but people posting about high player counts without any prompting. Cos the OP of this post, and so many others before it, didn't need any prompting. He made this post of his own volition, not as a reaction to someone else. So go on, find me all those white knight POSTS about GGG's player count.

And then compare it with how many posts like this one have been made in the same period i.e. the negative 'player numbers are tumbling' posts. Let's see which group is more active. I'll bet you an exalt it'll be the doomsayers.

How do I know this? Cos I've been here long enough to see it. But also, it's typical human psychology. There's even a term for it, with its own Wikipedia page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negativity_bias

The doomsayers are always more common, unless you're in a a social milieu that explicitly suppresses such sentiments (like certain positive thinking groups). These forums have no such rules, so the doomsayers are far more common. Indeed you can even do a search of the phrase 'white knights' on here - I'm pretty sure you'll find the majority of the times it's used is by the doomsayers on their own posts, in response to the people criticising said posts. The 'white knights' aren't filling these forums with excessive positivity, they're merely people who disagree with the doomsayers. But the doomsayers post the most.
