Microsoft bought Blizzard...GGG next?
Huge news today, Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard.
Should we expect next that they will aquire GGG as well? Or the Tencent % is a blocking point? Source: https://news.microsoft.com/features/microsoft-to-acquire-activision-blizzard-to-bring-the-joy-and-community-of-gaming-to-everyone-across-every-device/ Last bumped on Jan 24, 2022, 11:30:14 AM

You don't think Blizzard would have enough content, IP and opportunity to occupy MS for a few years?
Probably not great news for other games companies, however. Microsoft have more patience than most, and far resources at least until maybe Apple want in to the sector. Looking for a mature guild to play with?

Tencent is already a majority shareholder of GGG.
It will convert your forum titles into decorative square badges that use the space next to your forum posts more economically so that you can show off an unlimited number of them at any one time. - GGG, 2018 (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3573673)

Tencent has no reason to ever sell unless they get paid a ludicrous multiple on GGG's value or China breaks them up. Maybe if PoE mobile is successful they'd have a reason to do it.
I hope the metaverse meme fizzles out. Just a way to sell people overpriced MTX that they don't need and shouldn't want. |

I mean, what?
Are we comparing GGG with its 150 employee to Activision Blizzard's 10.000 like it's somewhat comparable? Not to mention that Activision Blizzard has several hard-hitting IP's, while GGG has one F2P game? The only thing we can hope for here, is that Microsoft utilizes the Scorched earth tactic on Activision Blizzard, and uses their name and position to make some quality games. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Jan 18, 2022, 11:08:57 AM

Microsoft has no reason to buy GGG. The purchase of Blizzard was a smart decision to expand the business. Now all they have to do is clean house.

As Jerle said, Tencent owns GGG.
And while Microsoft is massive, Tencent is one of the few companies on this planet that is probably beyond the reach of financial acquisition for MS. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Wow, never expected that to happen during my lifetime.
Especially since Phil Spencer said something like they would need to rethink their business practices with Activision-Blizzard after the whole sexual harassment stuff happened. Guess he meant that they could lower the price now, after that PR disaster. Anyway, GGG has almost no value to Microsoft, since PoE is already F2P there's no need to include that game into Game Pass. But think about the pull of Diablo 4 and potentially OW2 being "F2P" at launch day with Game Pass... that's huge. |

No doubt. Game pass was already an incredible value, now I would say it's a complete no brainer, that likely has a value that exceeds the cost of the console itself, and the membership, in short order (depending on your gaming spending habits) Edit: spelling, phone OP "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." - Abraham Lincoln Last edited by DarthSki44#6905 on Jan 18, 2022, 11:35:20 AM

I'd think MS'd have bought them not just for the IP but for that many skilled developers who are reasonably happy in a corporate environment and might even welcome less.. controversial top management. It's very hard to grow that kind of scale from scratch - as we've seen - so it's a great way to add scale fast, IF you have that kind of spare cash around.
Note that EA has seen quite a share price jump today, although I'm not quite sure who the market might be anticipating as a purchaser. Tencent, maybe, they're about the only ones big enough, but already own Riot and a plurality of Epic - or maybe someone entirely new, but this seems even less likely. n.b. the rankings last year, before #4 bought #5. https://www.alltopeverything.com/top-10-biggest-video-game-companies/ Looking for a mature guild to play with?
