Can Path of Exile compete with Lost Ark and Elden Ring?
Souls games don't have an easy mode, just like POE as well, so yes they are considered niche. POE is a 2013 game, Dark Souls on the other hand is a 2011 game that became a massive phenomenon with reputation of being a greatest game of all time, so yeah "come and goes". Tell me more about that, lol. Seems some of the POE audience lives under a rock.

Elden Ring > Pokemon > Lost Ark > POE
Now there are some caveats, such as... Lost Ark being p2w? POE bringing a fun mechanic to the new league? You pretty much know what you are getting with Elden Ring and Pokemon. Although, I'm pretty sure most will beat Pokemon before POE comes out. Tala Moana, Exile.

" POE's death because X game is coming out has been going on for a decade now. It just keeps "grinding" along. I'll play it until something else wins more of my time. I play other games as well, usually once I am finished with the POE league and that depends on if I like a particular league or not. Yet, I still come back. A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

" 'Rip off' is not the term you use when it's the same devs throwing all their experience and resources at a big name new title. And I doubt GRR Martin was cheap to tap as a writer, regardless of his actual input. Your entire perception of this game is off. $10 on steam? Unless it lands extremely poorly, you're not going to see that sort of price tag for Elden Ring for a long time. It has Ghost of Tsushima level hype and that one has NEVER come close to $10. I'm not even interested in Elden Ring and even I know it's not a '$10 on steam' title. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Jan 24, 2022, 11:52:50 PM

" Yeah, and numbers show that. Not like the closed beta of LA had same amont of people as PoE start of the league. |

" talked for me. if others enjoy it, go for it but i waited too long for LA and after playing the betas i got bored very quickly |

" But that does not really matter. I bet WoW and quite a few other MMOs have (way) more concurrent players than PoE, but what does that have to do with PoE? I mean, the godd*mn Candy Crush has more than 250 *million* (!) people who play it more than once a month, even now, after all these years. It grosses $1.2 billion per year (profit: $850 million per year). Compared to that, everything else is literally peanuts, including the MMO behemoth like WoW :P People that like Candy Crush or MMOs, will spend more time playing them, but for ARPGs, PoE is still (and probably will be for a good while) the number one choice. They simply do not share the same niche and/or interest. Remember how D2R was supposed to "OMG D2R WILL PWNKILL POE OMEGALULZ!!!111"? And Diablo is/was, without a shadow of doubt, *the* definition of ARPG, the very source of inspiration for PoE. A direct competitor. Well, yeah, that "dying" did not go all that well... So, yeah, people will always try new games, but, in the end, if it's not a direct, true competitor in the same niche, the fans of true ARPGs will be back here in a few weeks, or even months. Like they always did, and will do, until that true competitor arises. And even then, there are enough people for more than one ARPG to survive (and thrive).
