Wow rip gladiator

Unless she's nerfed/reworked, Ascendant Gladiator could well end up being better off for max block than Gladiator. She can already be highly competitive in that regard without even taking Glancing Blows. Curious to see what they do to her.

If Glad gets lucky block, it'll be even more buff for them, assuming it'll apply to spell block as well. With versatile combatant, non-glad will have 50 block/50 spell block, glad will have effectively 75/75 due to lucky modifier. Without VC, a 75/20 chance will be turned into 93,75/36. If you somehow manage to squeeze 75/50 chances before applying lucky block, you get 93,75/75 block with glad, way above what was possible before.
What is the point in nerfing glad spell block when they already struggle against magic damage in general?

Also you would have to invest more points into defenses while losing more damage or life

This changes and the trickster reeks of: "lets give a lil bit of everything to everyone.." truth is when you do that then nothing is unique anymore.

The nerfs needed to be reverted in general (flask to begin with how dumb they are even after the post yesterday) and they havent even mention any sort of changes to the disaster that they did on 3.15 patch notes.

Seems a lot of people in this thread never actually played a high block Lacerate gladiator.

First GGG nerfed the bleed craft (60% chance for 100% more bleed damage).

Now they're nerfing two more integral parts of the build. Block Glads got hit not only with the nerf to Versatile Combatant, but ALSO to the NEW 25% mana reservation on Tempest Shield.

For high block Lacerate builds, Glad already had 85% mana reserved with Pride (50%), Herald of Purity (25%), and Blood and Sand (10%). Tempest Shield was needed for the added block percentage, but it didn't reserve any mana.

Now, EVEN IF Blood and Sand is dropped...high block gladiators will be at 100% mana reserved with Pride (50), Herald of Purity (25%) and Tempest Shield (25%).

Combined with the nerf to bleed damage previously, this build is dead...and the sad part is that IT WAS NEVER a high DPS build. It was just fun and tanky.

The disappointment for me was that bleed glad was a build that mid range players could build, and then start to dip their toe so to speak, into the end game. It was very forgiving with great mitigation through block and had OK DPS. Not great DPS, but OK DPS. It was also at a price point that was achievable for a lot of mid-range players who could farm 10-20ex by week two or three of the league.

Finally, it was a lot of fun and smooth to play.

I like to think of the bleed gladiator as the silent middle class of POE. Plodding along without the dramas of the so called "filthy casuals" and "no-lifers" just quietly killing monsters and treating POE like a pastime that is to be enjoyed for a few hours after work.

Whilst it is too early to say if it is dead, as we just do not know what GGG have got planned, it is a shame that this is a build GGG have chosen to target.

it is a shame that this is a build GGG have chosen to target.

They mostly don't target specific builds, not with Ascendancy-based changes. What literally all of you seem to miss is that the ascendancy will be available as a keystone while glad also gets a new one. Relaaax, its embarassing to call the build dead with so minor changes.
To me, evasion builds were hit much harder then block builds.
Dodge was removed, blind nerfed, Wind Dancer nerfed, the only upside is that they might be compatible with block now, as Acrobatics is being reworked.
Once again they show how little they understand what truly balance mean.
And once again they just never learn.
And once again they are destroying huge amount of builds, because there is 1-2 strong builds ....

Sorry, but while Gladiator was having a strong defense part, which was obviously the main part in taking Gladiator, the damage was always lacking, ESPECIALLY for One hand + Shield.
Also you waste a lot of points to get high block chance.
They hit us hard with Tempest Shield change, cause i used it for some "extra" block, and i'm already full on auras.
Once again sorry, but this ain't a beta/alpha to do such a drastic changes from league to league. It's ridiculous.

But no problem, there is still garbage builds, that are 500% safer, because they are on huge range and are always safe, and do 500x more damage than melee builds, but yeah nerf the melee even more.

And tell me why in the blue hell should every mechanics be open to everyone? Isn't this Ascendancy for it for god sake? To give us a unique experience with the certain class? Where is the uniqueness in my build if everyone could get what i have ??? Why in the blue hell i will ever wanna touch Gladiator again ???? It was taken for 1 sole reason .......

You actually kidding right? Cause Evasion was 500x time stronger than the Armor, and you are making it even more stronger now ......

SO half of ppl during this league plays Glad (shield skills) because it was one of very few things that still felt good to play.
What do they do? Buff other things back? Nope.
They nerf things that remained fine.
