Get rid of the xp loss
The only thing the penalty has ever done to me is to discourage me from trying new/harder content unless I just dinged, and from playing at all when I get randomly deleted from offscreen/by something I didn't even see and just ALT+F4 for the rest of the day or the week.
It has never encouraged me to "get better" because in the first case one needs to actually experience the fights first in order to learn them, and in the second, the death is largely out of the player's control. So the way I see it is that one of the game's integral mechanics is there to discourage you from playing. That doesn't sound like intelligent game design to me. |

" Yes, this was always my experience on the penalty, too. I also felt it should be obvious, yet I've seen all these wackoo comments on how player psychology works in their mind. |
" If the idea was to make you try and play better, then why can't you recover at least a portion of the lost EXP once you beat that boss/recover your corpse? |
" I mean, I guess people have different mind sets naturally. To me, however, the whole concept of 'zerging unless you are punished' didn't feel very fitting at all. I don't understand why I'd need a punishment for not dying in a video game, as if I'd ever enjoy video games for the experience of failing in them anyways. If they really wanted to curb zerging mentality, the way to do it was first start getting rid of the goddamn dps checks and timers this game is filled with, then, buff the god-awful, paper thin defenses within a budget. If anything, it's the game mechanics that are put in place that introduce this sort of gameplay, not the noobs attitude. Last edited by vmt80#6169 on Nov 17, 2021, 6:36:53 AM

That's another thing, even without timers, a lot of fights feel like that unless you make stuff explode right away, you're just dooming yourself.
Scourge packs are a clear example of that, unless you blow up everything around you at once, you're going to get deleted by those offscreen beams in the next few seconds. With many bosses, things are similar. If the fight drags on then you just get stuck in an endless loop of trying to avoid stuff, mashing flasks and popping your defensives while there's barely if any room for you to actually attack. Get rid of the exp loss OR significantly reduce it to like 2 or 3%. But, I’ve got another option for you ggg.
Two xp bars. One that’s impacted by the 10% loss and is the normal one and another that isn’t. The additional xp bar cannot be impacted by death but it takes longer to fill. Let’s say 150% of the exp normal one requires. Which means no more than 5 deaths can impact someone’s leveling rate. Why this system works well: People good at not dying feel like they can level quicker than everyone still. People good at dying can still feel like they can level period. And don’t rage / ragequit the game after a few deaths when they were 95% and can sirus whenever they feel like it without having to wait until at 0% xp. This change would reduce the stress of the player base by MOUNTAINLOADS. There is no reason an arpg that periodically kills you for no reason should have a whopping 10% penalty. 80% of my deaths are out of my control : DC, crash, ping taking vacations, suprise one shot in white maps no mobs...
yes i could buy 5 ways/chayulas runs to take the last few levels.. but even at high levels that takes hours during wich you cannot die is this my work now? |
" In case you missed it, i am happy with current exp loss, you aren't. So yes you are the one complaning. |
" So i wonder why i can trace every single one of my 100ish hc ssf deaths over the years to my own mistake and yet 80% of your 1000s of death are out of your control? Lets just say something does not add up here. I have an idea what it is but that discussion for a different post. |
" That's still not an answer with some explenation, not that I expect any kind from the likes of you. So just don't bother to reply if all you can say is i like it and you complain, take your childish answer somewhere else please or just answer the earlier question about the term you call zerging. |
