Steam charts isn't right.

The only reason I made this post was for a year ago GGG has the same number, same 2 years. Steam I know is max 50% of player. But some to tell is dead is wrong.

... Not necessarily. It depends if those leaving are equally as likely to support the game as those they retain.

If the 50% lost are mostly people who buy no more than a stash tab or two if that, but those inclined to buy supporter packs mostly stay, then that cut in numbers may be a good thing for GGG finances, because they get lower server loads and hosting costs with only a small overall dip in income.
They end up with a smaller playerbase, on average spending more, and better aligned with the direction of the game.

If they are pushing for expansion and later monetisation of new players, then it probably bad news, because gradually the existing players will still drift off and are less likely to be replaced by new (paying) players. But that kind of financial impact might take a year or more to show.
If they see a sustained drop in points/pack sales, then I think they would be concerned.

Yeah, theoretically speaking, but Chris said that they wiped off ~30 % revenue at Expedition in an interview a week and a half after launch, and the starting drop off was about 30 %, so that is a strong hint towards player number trends = revenue trends.

Plus, for anecdotic evidence, look at the forums - a really common patters is people with a ton of supporter packs complaining and 0 - 1 supporter packs owning hardcore players telling them to stfu and git gud.

GGG has made huge amounts of money with PoE. Not to mention investers like Tencent throwing money at them. You seriously think a temporary drop in players will affect the entire future of PoE?
Ofc it wont. And they are probably mainly putting focus into PoE 2, which kinda makes sense.
Once that gets released, PoE player numbers will no doubt reach new heights again.

Concidering how well PoE has been able to maintain players. I'm not really worried at all. Nothing compared to D3 that lost something like 96% of the playerbase after two months.

Chris said that they're fine if one league underperforms, less so if it's 2 - 3 leagues, and I see no reason not to believe him. And PoE 2 is coming in ~2024, which is really, really far from now.

Even if PoE would fall down by 50% less players. It would still be 10x more people then Grim Dawn and Lost Epoch. And does it really matter anyway?

It matters if the company wants to make more and more money .

No one can deny that the steam numbers look bad, because they do.

But to think that the game is dying based on the numbers of one league is naive - at best. The game will survive, and the numbers will probably look better the next league or the league after. This patch wasn't "short term", it was "long term", hitting the reset switch to be able to spoil the players in the future with OP power creep.

Some players will quit the game for real. Some players just need a break to cool off for a while, slowly realizing that PoE is still the best - and most popular ARPG on the market.

3 questions for you, as you clearly put some effort into that:

1) Do you ACTUALLY think the game will die based on this patch (not die for you, but die for everyone)?

2) Do you ACTUALLY think that some players won't come back? As in NO players what so ever?

3) Do you ACTUALLY think that the numbers won't look better in the December end-game expansion?

If your answer is an honest "yes" to all of those, your clown-meme is justified IF you're right on all accounts. If not, I don't think I'm the clown here :)

1) I think the game will lose player confidence with this kind of patch. I started to see some differences between the game players want to play and the game GGG wants to develop.

2) Player numbers will grow at the start of every league, but player retation is going down with every bad league.

3) No, i think it will look better.

I'm not a hatter, i really wanna keep playing Path Of Exile. Just tired of changes no one asked for(game slowing down), splinters everywhere and overcomplicated mechanics.

I dont think the game is in a good state. I'm really hoping for the "end game expansion" to be as good as you expect.

That's a lot of vague answers, where not one of them really justified you clown meme.

Good job.

Not offenden, I just like a good debate without people going full retard, debating only the person, without bringing one real argument to the table themselves.
