This game is an abusive P2W slot machine feeding off of peoples' addictions.
PoE is not P2W. If you could buy a 6L Shav's or pay to get an extra 1000 HP for your character, it would be P2W.
Technically, it's not even pay to play. It's 'pay to play if you want convenience and all the bells and whistles'. But it's eminently possible to play the game without spending a cent. I played with the default four stash tabs for more than six months. It's not the easiest or most enjoyable way to play the game. But then, 'you get what you pay for' is one of life's general rules. There is no reason why it wouldn't apply to PoE too. |

PoE is Pay 2 Win, but you don't pay with your money, you pay with your time.
Constant state of failure applied on multiple layers of RNG feed your endorphins when you manage to "succeed". You spend your dollars to make the time in game more efficient and bearable. Basically you pay to save time. But you pay with time. It's kinda disgusting model if you think about it, but it's rather enjoyable time killing. I represent only myself, my own thought and believes. I am individual, not a representative of the community.
I am not speaking on behalf of someone else and I don't get offended by things that have nothing to do with me. 3.13 was the golden age. |

Maybe P2W isnt reached but P2C (pay to "convenient") is on the line, right on it: time gained when using auto sort tabs like MAP and even more recently : Fragments. The Fragments tabs has 3 sub-tabs; and everything is auto sorted when stashing. Quads also helps a bit.

" That I can totally agree with. Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.

" Using that logic, almost everything we do is P2W. If you want to do anything well in life, you have to invest time in it, whether it's your career, a hobby or even something banal like housework. Heck, even sleeping would qualify. You have to do it in order to stay healthy but it eats up a chunk of your time, roughly one-third of your life. So is sleeping P2W? I suppose one could technically argue it is, but it's not the descriptor that I would apply to it. |

On the subject of P2W and addictions, though, I've noticed a significant shift in the YouTube content put out by the PoE community recently. When I first started playing the game (late Synthesis league), almost all videos were build guides, along with explanatory videos on how to run Temples, how to Beast craft, and so on. Now most videos are on how to make X number of Exalts an hour by implementing Y strategy.
If I see a YT video title with any of the following key words, I skip the video: Exalts Chaos Investment Profit 100% Delirium The name of any map region (Valdo's Rest, etc) Per hour It's almost like it's become a game for investment bankers. That's not why I game at all. I like the challenge of killing monsters. In Valheim, there is no trade and thus no currency. You can farm and hoard as many resources as you like. There is nobody to sell it to so it's a pointless exercise of gathering for greed's sake. Yet I love the game because it retains the core of you being alone and fighting dangerous monsters that outnumber you greatly. Whether you make a lot of loot from them or none at all seems entirely trivial to me. |

" If I tried to summarize your rather revolutionary post, I would say that basically you play the game for fun! What a refreshing point of view! :-) Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

" Well, there's a thing called ssf, where you can legit laugh at all that, including some pixel mirror drop, if it ever happens. It all comes to personal preference of couse, but personally i prefer to be effective at work rather than in accumulating imaginary riches with no real value (that if you abide teh Holy Terms of Service™ of course) in a computer game. In games i'd rather prefer having some fun. "Path of Exile's engine is currently modern, lean and fast." - Chris Wilson, September 19th, 2019

As much as I dislike GGG at the current moment due to the launch fiasco. I will say the OP of this thread is speaking out their ass. It isn't pay to win, the initial 4 tabs is limiting yes and incentivses you to buy tabs (which they regularly put on sale) but you can progress to maps and endgame without them.
The game has a massive learning curve especially to those unfamiliar with the genre of game and is hard to get into. I didn't get into the first 2 times I tried. I think my first character didn't even finish A3 Merciless back in the day. I will say this though it does suck if you only want to play a free game and put no money into it due to storage limitations; you get what you pay for. |

I tried to play again and I'm honestly blown away at how blinded you people are. The game was proving my claims at absolutely every turn, how can you people actually deny them? I pray you all seek help to get over your crippling addictions and dependencies to this horrible game. I can't imagine what you experience, I assume it's not pleasant though.
