Aren't these the same people who told us that the last 5 major releases would each kill PoE?

None of "the last 5 major releases" can be compared to D2 remaster.
Will it kill PoE? Probably not, but it will be a real competition for it.

What the fuck are you talking about LOL there's no compeition you play each game in sessions / seasons there's NO new content for D2 at all it's the same game they even said it.

All they did was put a filter on it.

Why do some of you randomly think THIS WILL BE A MARK! Holy fucking shit it's like you never played D2 same fucking gameplay for years now.

You don't play D2 forever mysteriously neither do you do with poe. D2 can't replace poe if it can't make new content like if you were like me who basically HC's both SC get max chars perfect MF sorc hydra swap into something broken every season that's it that's the entire game.

Rose tinted goggles everywhere.

IT WILL MAKE A MARK T_TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT my god delusional

One of the absolute biggest pieces of news for D2R is that they're allowing offline play and mods.

Tens of thousands of players play Project Diablo / Path of Diablo / Median XL ect.

Things these mods have been able to introduce into D2;

Deep crafting
New items
New Bosses
New skills
Reworked skills
An ACTUAL endgame, with maps and everything.

Now think of what the mods are going to look like for D2R. And think of the millions of sales they'll get not only because it's a diablo game, but because it's a fuckin D2 remaster that's doing it right.

It won't 'kill' poe in the sense that poe will still be running, but yes as it currently looks, I and others might just be spending more time in D2R then PoE for a bit.

i didnt play diablo back then because the graphics were too bad lol
Need more brains, exile?
No way I am changing PoE to 20y old game. I mean I might play it a bit to remember old times, but to leave PoE? At this time GGG is doing very good work of keeping PoE fresh and engaging and it keeps us here.

Still PoE will be no1 and the only real competition for PoE will be Diablo4.
D2R is a nice side activity between seasons but only hardcore D2 fans will choose it as a main game.
As for fan mods - well I would rather play official game, than some non optimized mods (mods are good to refresh yourself and do some crazy shenanigans with lvl500 characters, but not as a serious game).

Dunno... if it holds up that it will run the mods, I could see this really giving PoE a run for its money. With a new graphics engine, the mod community can produce some amazing new content on a fairly regular basis.

Exactly. It seems the ones who are hell bound on hating D2R are blatantly ignoring the fact it can and will be modded.

D2R, with graphics that look better then current PoE, with full mod support for everything from new skills to items to endgame map systems is going to crush.

All these mods also hold their own seasons / ladders and tournaments as well.

From what I've heard about PoD / PD and the like, they already have a TON of total players throughout their ladders. The only thing that's been holding back players like myself from joining in, is really the 800x600 grainy resolution. As fun as D2 was to play, trying to run it on a new monitor was just ass. It won't be now though.

I don't think anyone believes it will destroy PoE.

But unless Blizzard messes it up badly, it will sure show some of the younger ones here (those who, for example, need to yell in all caps that it can't possibly matter) how stable and smooth a game should be. And that loot can actually be enjoyable instead of tedious. And that fights with monsters can actually be fights, rather than flashy instant-kill-or-die flask refills with overwhelming gfx clutter.

Expect many more complaint threads about wonky balance, mud+squares gfx and lousy performance. Not everyone will settle for a buggy clone if they can play the original in a modern cloak.

Of course, D2R will also have to somehow allow for more end game. Andariel runs to collect keys for Über-Tristram can get old after a while.
May your maps be bountiful, exile
I'll probably play it through once or a few times to tickle the nostalgia, but with no endgame and Blizzard being so lazy as with the D3 I don't see it as something long term or any kind of PoE killer because PoE actually has an endgame content and a lot of it.

And of course no pre-orders until I actually see some reviews because Blizzard has completely lost my trust with their W3:Refunded, political scandals and lies.

Fanboys who say that the remake will kill PoE are hilarious. I remember same talks about Wolcen.
