You should still try it, either your interested in the concept or your interested in the power if its the latter you'll always be chasing a moving target and will frequently get shut down from playing the niche OP stuff.

Unless you wanted to play fire golems in which case i'd give it a pass for now, stone and carrion will be fine.
The only golem i have never seen work is Chaos Golem.

Pretty sure its because its damage is low and/or hard to scale.

So your build in which you dont even need to click a SINGLE button now will need 15 sec to kill end game boss instead 12 sec.

I did not play the carrion golem build, as I have played flame golem golemancer build, so I can only speak for that, but I can assure you that for me A8 Sirus is not a 15 sec kill and I do have to click more than 1 button.:)
You dont have to. You CAN if you want. Your build will kill shit even w/o clicking a single button.
LOL nevermind. Nerfs to Ascendancy, notables, supporting spectres, AND the gems themselves. Build might still work but it's looking like a mid-league char option after you already have plenty of currency to make it work.

People expect their golems to be utterly fucking immortal and poo-poo the respawn mechanic.

This change is designed for golems to be what they were originally intended to be: Support minions.
Now the elementalist can choose a couple of other nodes and they'll be useful because the player will be the primary damage dealer, supported by some *crazy* golem buffs (290% w/ 4 golems!). And if one dies, just withdraw and wait for it to respawn to regain the buff. Quit worrying about making them utterly insane tanks and AFKing the game.

That's why their damage output got nerfed: AFK summoners.
Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive.
Patch Notes 3.19:
Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment.
Golems nerfed in every possible way, but it was deserved. Golems was so strong and best afk build in game, so they deserve nerf.
