Path of Exile vs Diablo 3

Spoiler
I'm seeing screenshots of Koreans having slain the big D already. Wow. Then again, they did invent Lineage 2...wonder if they'll crack Inferno far sooner than the D3 spin doctors would like...

...I'm glad I'm not into D3 like you guys, judging by the server clogging and staggered release, etc. My condolences. Seriously. I know what it's like to be SO close and yet SO far.

Well, I'm not surprised that players on the Asian server have already finished the game on Normal. Diablo 2 speed rushes are easily achieved in a couple of hours on Normal, and Blizzard stated that D3 is approximately the same length as D2.

(I accidentally clicked an image link of the final boss, and now I'm shooting myself in the foot, ultimate derp moment.)

As for the launch hickups, its to be expected with a game this popular. Although, I am a bit surprised they haven't dedicated more servers to D3 and done other things with launching the game. Wrath and Cataclysm launched with very few problems. Sc2 also launched with relatively few hiccups as well, if I recall.

That's kinda sad though, don't you think? Was Diablo 1 just as easily speed-run first time through, as it were? I wouldn't know, I play games at my own pace, but I'd be curious to find out if this idea of rushing through games (on the first playthough) is an old or new concept. I love those speed runs of old console games on youtube, they're fun, but I'm pretty sure none of them are first-timers.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

I totally agree. I'm not a speed runner at all. I also take my time. But apparently others don't.

Uhm...

Edit: I see you meant the first time. I'll leave the link here for interest.

Update: Without rushing, finished act 1 in 5 hours. So I figure a full Normal playthrough will be about 20 hours.

I am part of a D3 facebook group of friends and friends of friends, it is about 60 strong and there is a fair bit of annoyance at D3, for both the server troubles and gameplay changes. I have been fairly neutral as I do plan on playing D3 at some point. Not on release but maybe in several months time I will pick it up for a good price. But I keep name dropping PoE in there hoping to get some more interest! It is just a shame they couldn't have extended the public test a bit longer so these people could play the game I keep recommending them!
*WARNING* - expect typos!

I sort of rushed through the first act because I had a deadline... but I'll replay it at a slower pace tomorrow. :)

Also, the game is SO much harder than I ever thought it would be. There are certain encounters that made me nearly shit my pants. :P

I don't recall ever saying that I expected D3 to be easy. I suck at these sorts of games. There were some moments even in the beta where I was in trouble -- the urn quest comes to mind, that's for sure.

Same here, once you get past Skeleton king the game ramps up considerably. Gotta say the combat is spot on, melee feels really meaty and its paced just right, not to fast/floaty everything has decent hits but doesn't do tons of damage. Fights with large groups can last quite a while in ARPG terms and then end dramatically when you pull off a charged AOE bomb attack.

Whoever thinks it easy or for so called casuals (whoever they are) clearly isnt playing the same game. I didnt die once on POE until merciless, Ive already died on D3 and im not even past act 1! And the most refreshing thing coming from POEs MOC is that the death wasn't cheesy or cheap I Just got gradually overwhelmed rather than spiked to death in 1 second flat.

Nah it was just a general announcement really. :)

Also @ Rodhull.

At the beginning of act 2 there's going to be a rare mob named something like 'Boneshatterer'.
You are melee like me. GET. THE FUCK. OUT.
He nearly killed me in a single hit.
(It's dodgeable, but I didn't know :P)
