Also, the game is SO much harder than I ever thought it would be. There are certain encounters that made me nearly shit my pants. :P

Same here, once you get past Skeleton king the game ramps up considerably. Gotta say the combat is spot on, melee feels really meaty and its paced just right, not to fast/floaty everything has decent hits but doesn't do tons of damage. Fights with large groups can last quite a while in ARPG terms and then end dramatically when you pull off a charged AOE bomb attack.

Whoever thinks it easy or for so called casuals (whoever they are) clearly isnt playing the same game. I didnt die once on POE until merciless, Ive already died on D3 and im not even past act 1! And the most refreshing thing coming from POEs MOC is that the death wasn't cheesy or cheap I Just got gradually overwhelmed rather than spiked to death in 1 second flat.

This post more than any other tells me you've found your game, Rod, and I'm very happy for you. Most of us do die in PoE, especially the latest patch. I'm not even sure if you started over to try it untwinked, but whatever. History now, really.

I'm surprised you've already died in A1 though, given that many of my friends didn't at all and they're far from the end-game devotee you seem to be. That's very interesting indeed. Maybe things learned 'mastering' PoE became a lingering hindrance when switching to D3? That sort of thing fascinates me.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
It varies a lot.
Early on, most of the heavy hitting monsters are slow and kiteable. If you're ranged, you'll never die unless you run in like an idiot.
I am melee, I have no choice but to run in like an idiot.
Some monsters will wreck. your. face. ^^
But it's also very possible that you never encountered this, even more so if you play the game in co-op.

Like I said elsewhere, I died a few times in the beta. Hey, 50 hours, 20+ chars with remaking, zero twinking at times. It'll happen. My sword-only DH version of Charan was pathetic (but damn did he look the part). I'm very glad to say my Shadow is making up for that one.

I actually played my first real chunk of non-Cut-Throat co-op PoE today with that Shadow version of Charan. Man, I need to co-op more often. I'd forgotten the dimensions it can add when you're with a fun and not totally incompetent party.

Yep, co-op in arpgs is amazing.
I am planning to play the entirity of nightmare and hell together with a friend of mine.
Call me a nerd, but I have a feeling it's going to be one of the most fun times I have had in my life.
(We'll be doing it during a 3 month vacation period, so it's non stop gaming and having fun. :P)

The difficulty of inferno on beginning is somewhere like hell in d2 act 3 or act 4. You cant play it if you dont farm for a lot of good items. So the game is really hard. Normal is easy, there can be some nasty combination of elite monsters but not that hard if you use good skill combo, but real things start on hell and inferno.
The most innovative thing that I love are wallers, and in inferno there can be some nasty fights that are much hard than boss fights.

This. He isn't. :P

Judging from the video on GT, I'd say it's going to be much much harder than what you described even.

No, I dont have d3 =). I am watching stream for 10 h now =D. People played for 15h nonstop yesterday to act 2 hell lvl 55. Now they are lvl 60 on act 1 in inferno and played more than 24 h =D. They want to be first to complete the game in inferno.
Ah, okay. My apologies. I...uhm, am enjoying learning about D3 through the 'hard work' of others but I'd never sit and watch a stream for that long. So thanks for your hard work too... :)
