Gotta say GGG's cycle of nerfing and buffing the same skills is getting tiresome
The root of the problem is that there's a very vocal group of people who will always choose the best build. If that build is 5% better than anything else they will choose it. If that build is nerfed by 6% then it is no longer the best so it is killed in their eyes no matter if it's still viable or not.
Look at all the RIP VD Necro comments. I didn't use Glancing Blows with %hp/es on block shield, I used Rumi's Concoction, life gain on spell hit, and Doryani's Lesson instead, and I had no issues with survivability. I had 425k average VD hit on Sirus which might drop to 350k because I would have to drop Herald of Ash and maybe change back Hypothermia or Elemental Focus to Inspiration in order to compensate the Spellslinger mana reserve change. It's like a 20% DPS nerf to me but to be honest it's still more than enough as I didn't even use my damage flask for map clearing because I didn't need them and was too lazy to hit the buttons. |

^ this dude gets it, unacceptable you need to go throw a tantrum right now I want to hear just how unplayable it is. It needs to be worse than GH without the threshold.

According to PoE ninja, they nerfed the skill played by 5% of players. It was possible to make it work with several tens of exalts, every other spell felt shit already, so Rory adjusted it's damage accordingly - always down, so everything would be on par with say flame surge, flameblast and other bullshit no one would dare to touch.
But PoE players rejoice, cause Rory gives you suprisingly fresh alternative, for new, unique builds, that can be incorporated as both league starters, and engame builds alike. These include: - cyclone gladiator - cyclone slayer - cyclone champion and other derivatives of cyclone. Rory is a good lad, and I can vouch that he's always politically correct also. Viva la PATH of RMT :) |

Uh.. idk, I read OP's post and found it reasonably worrisome.
I'm not worried that ggg is nerfing and buffing things. I'm worried that ggg is buffing something that really shouldn't need a buff and then they give that shocked pikachu face when it's abused next league so they immediately nerf the skill back down. A skill like BL did not need a buff, it was already strong. The reason why steelmage used BL in his ghetto harold build in the china race was because it did way more damage than arc or spark. That thing was shredding a8 bosses on 10c gear. So why did this gem need a buff? There's hundreds of shitty gems that need it more than BL. This tells me that the balance team does not actually play this game and/or their understanding of their own game is at best: poor. I think ggg would seriously benefit from having octavian in their team the faster he joins because from what I could tell he's one of the people that have their heads actually screwed on correctly. |

" I find it worrying that you think buffs and nerfs exist in a vacuum. . . BL was buffed to compensate for the damage loss due to the nerf of slower projectiles. . . |

" I also find it worrying that certain skill gets balanced according to potential interaction with a certain single support gem. Which one may use or not. If the support is definitively related to the skill and defines its performance, I guess "balance" team got bigger problems to worry about. I get buffs and nerfs. We need both. And I get why it's more important to nerf stuff they deem OP, rather than buff everything else. The power creep would sky rocket.
What I don't get, is that GGG clearly give some skills more love, more buffs, more nerfs, more attention and more interaction league after league, while other skills haven't been touched, played or even thought about since they got added. It's like they have this shortlist of skills that need to be 'viable'/'up there' each freakin' league. Some skills are mechanically superior, I get that. I feel they're a little bit too afraid of giving the mechanically inferior skills a little "somethingsomething" to compensate. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
