I'm Tired of Content Being Cut From PoE, Taking a Break from PoE for 3.12 Heist League

what i meant was: setting up the garden was low effort.

for "clickers" playing arpg's: role playing games are about "clicking things", those guys who are too lazy to click on things really failed to chose the right genre of games when playing poe.

tl;dr i agree with you

Sure. It´s not like we are already spending 2/3 of my PoE-Time outside the game on Path of Building, Wiki, Ninja or Poetrade.

I liked the idea of the Garden very much, the implementation was a chore. Would not mind a dumbed down version of Harvest with like - one watering can fits all - but the last thing on earth PoE needs is another mechanic in this clusterf*.
I quit this league faster than 1 tiers grow.

Don´t know why they are gating 6-linking and other useful crafting options for a huge part of the playerbase though.

Garden itself is somewhat okay if you ask me. What is terrible in my opinion is all these objects like pylons/tanks/stations which need to be connected, its like creating a bad gardening simulator for the sake of having a gardening simulator, forgetting its actually a side mechanic in a hack'n'slash game. The mess of basically non-interactive objects with a lot of extra spots to (mis)click is quite annoying too.

It could have been simplified from the start, like having unified upgradable collectors with disperse button and on/off switch, just three storage tanks with capacity upgrade similar to that of delve sulphite storage, and most annoying of them all - these over9000 stations could go into one crafting bench with upgradable storage capacity and simple search function.

While most of the garden craft are quite overpowered to go core as is, some of them are really nice, especially in SSF, like say the ability to recycle bricked gems.

Thank you for the post. Unfortunately, I'm certain your feedback will be lost in the cacophony of un-constructive voices. If this was reddit, which has become the obvious defacto standard for the GGG hype-and-response machine, it would be down-voted into oblivion. Your opinion on the un-fun result of investing time into a league and it's mechanics, only to see it completely voided out, is one of the /many/ reasons why I too am not interested in playing the next league.

With that said I've been meaning to share my (probably un-vocal minority opinion) feedback on how I've fallen out of love with Path of Exile. My "trust" with GGG and desire to support them has been decimated this league on a number of fronts: Harvest mechanics, even partially, aren't going core because its "wholly overpowered" and I'll explain in a TBD post why I believe this (it has to do more with operational costs, game architecture, and the developer prioritie$).

If it's any consolation there is a wonderful ARPG game out there that has surpassed Path of Exile in terms of capturing the spirit of "D2" and it was developed by *one person* over the past 5 years. Granted, there's only local multiplayer but to be frank; (in my -opinion-) path of exile's multiplayer systems are abysmal at best. If it weren't for the need to trade to reduce grind-time and make certain progress, I'd probably have stayed playing SSF..

Check out Chronicon. It's (again, in my opinion) in the top 10 of my favorite games out right now.. or at least a fantastic gem. Like many ARPGS, it adds depth as you go and adds lots of fun features and discoveries as you progress. Absolutely amazing, considering, it's developed by *one person*.. and doesn't suffer from the beyond-infuriating technical challenges that have become normalized for this game.

Cheers, and happy gaming.

Glad Harvest is not going core, its way too strong. We do fine with Awakener's orb made items, its already more than enough to clear everything in the game, even with essence made items we'll do just fine. Now think about putting 3 t1 mods on top of an explode chest: Explode, +1 curse, dual crit, t1 life, its way too strong and is in no way needed to clear the game. The crafting options we have are already good, orbs, essences, fossils and the bench. Remember that they nerfed multimod because it was too strong, Harvest is 100 times better and I am glad they removed it lol.

Coming from an avid Factorio player who has made screenwide blueprints and complicated belt balancers, I do agree the gardening system felt out of place and annoying here in PoE even as I was looking at the garden layout and how each object functioned.

For me, GGG managed to get it in the "no man's land" where a mechanic isn't complex (and cohesive) enough to be interesting in its own right but also just slightly too complex to make as a side thing to hook onto something else that's totally different. They also messed up by making the garden so cramped it wasn't possible to do more interesting layouts for each seed type such as setups where a disperser could cover parts of two collectors' areas instead of just one. The only real spots to try this are at the top where three can be done in a line, and just below that and to the right where two can be done. Three could be done there if it wasn't for the terrain smack dab in the middle of the entire garden.

I would have liked your idea of the three upgradeable storage tanks and the single horticrafting station. The gardening itself was much better than screwing with its infrastructure.

Too strong for Meta Builds + Players who can play the game like forever.
Most of the Flippers hate Harvest also (lowest earning rate b/c you can craft almost anything you like)
Agriculture-simulation with Harvest

And now Metal Gear Solid strategy bs with Heist

This game is going down the tubes

PoE 2 better be good

No, I actually enjoyed the role-playing aspect of making my garden and harvesting the seeds with the monsters. The game needs more immersion like this and they are implementing more role-playing aspects like this with Heist. I am only taking a break because the devs seem to have gotten lazy to not want to put in the effort to make Harvest go core with 3.12, thus I am not coming back to the game until Harvest with the garden is back with balanced crafts.

Also, God forbid the devs bring something actually new and creative into the game for once that is not the same mind-numbing, rinse and repeat killing all the time that we get from most leagues. Oh let me guess, the different build variety in new leagues makes it new and exciting for you? When the majority of players just copy PoE Ninja charts for the most part and so even this ends up repetitive and boring with each league. An ARPG by the way, has ROLE-PLAYING in the name, meaning the game does not always have to be centered around overly simplistic killing that appeals to people who don't want to think a lot when playing the game.

Should the devs maybe remove anything from the game that doesn't involve killing for you? Maybe they should remove Labyrinth runnings with avoiding traps and remove Betrayal content where you actually have to use decision-making skills in the Syndicate board?

If you don't like this new type of content, you are free to leave to other games OR, here's an even better idea, don't partake in the new content if you don't want to because there are plenty of other activities to do in the game that end up giving you the same result that the new league content does.

Moreover, many players have different tastes in what they like from the game and DO enjoy this type of alternative content. That is why hideout decorating is popular among the community because it gives the player an interesting side activity to do in the game when the player is burned out on just killing constantly. Overall, Harvest was popular among many players who did give it a chance and brought something actually unique and new to the table in terms of the gardening role-playing aspect. This actually enhances the game because it gives the player more options in terms of side content they can engage in and I would argue it is ignorant to say otherwise because the content is not forced and you can do other content in the game to achieve the same result.

"same mind-numbing, rinse and repeat killing all the time that we get from most leagues"

This is a staple and core value that is instilled in the aRPG genre. It's a good thing. The rewarding factor with itemization, finding loot, trading, upgrading gear, and increasing your character's power is what we need. Not other genres to be injected into the game.

A league that did this very well: Breach.

You don't seem to understand the core concept of what I am arguing. Killing things is fun for a while, but it does get boring and repetitive after some time. That is why hideout decorating is popular among the community because it gives the player an interesting side activity to do in the game when the player is burned out on just killing constantly. This is also why when players get bored of only killing in PoE, they turn to other games that offer more than just this and PoE loses players. The devs themselves know this and are trying to implement more things into the game that involve more than just killing things.

When you limit the game to doing only one activity over and over, the game does get stale after a while and players turn to other games that offer more. Another user outlines this perfectly in this post http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2933111/page/1 where they state:
"You sow shallow gameplay as the best way to get reward and you end up with a shallow playerbase that shreds your hard work on reddit before they've even played a minute of it.

You keep leaving the slightly complicated league mechanics out of the core game, and putting the clear speed leagues into core. You reap what you sow when you do that."

This is very true and being shown more and more apparent by the players who cannot adapt to change and want PoE to just be some over simplified Diablo 2 clone with no complexity.

Bottom line, if you don't like the new content, don't play it, because there is more simplified content in the game you can partake in that can achieve the same result for you, but don't go on here and tell other players that the new content they enjoy is not good, because other players have different tastes and different expectations from what they want in the game.
