How are you supposed to sell items?

(For the record you people that do this are douche bags of course you are going to get low balled if u don't put a price tag on anything)

I have been playing less and less lately because I want new gear for my main toon and have tons of stuff to trade but don't have 10-40 hrs to sit in town and spam trade all day. The Trade Forum is garbage because when u are offline people just go to the next person selling the item.

Auction House please.. its a no brainer.

I go out of my way to "troll" the /offer people.

One had a unique quiver I could use and I PM'd him what he was looking for it.

Greedytrader1005: offer
(moron speak for "I have no clue, I'm just waiting for some idiot to offer 30+ exalts")

Me: ok, one chaos.

GT: way too low.

Me: what do YOU value it as, then?

GT: seeing your offer you can't afford it.

Me: how do you know? I offered my bare minimum, which is obviously higher than your price of "free". Do you not know how haggling works?

*silence*

Me: now are you gonna set a solid price or just wait to scam some idiot?

*Greedytrader1005 is ignoring you*

Scamming idiots it is, then.

Well, obviously, you don't value the same social interaction that other people strive for in a game like this. (Obviously, this was sarcasm).

For some reason everyone seems to be dead set against an AH. Why?

Because backward-thinking people always fear change.

I am against an AH like D3's, but it doesn't take long nor much imagination to think up a way of doing one really nicely. Just don't call it an AH and the fanbeast will slumber through it shouting the praise of GGG for cunning design!
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

I liked this part of the Everquest Bazaar. Where when I wanted to buy items I could set up a buyer and list what I wanted and what I was offering. I also sold a lot of stuff this way too. Just see what people are buying and sell to the person offering the most.

IMO, it shouldn't be an overnight/afk thing which I believe most players do not want. It should have a lot of player interaction. For example:

But I dont want the old EC Tunnel from Everquest either. Where you couldnt grind or farm anymore because you were forced to sit in a certain zone and spend hours trying to sell what you already had. Or you had to buy and maintain a second account so you could sell in the background while you played on your main account. If anything Id take UO/DAoC style where you had housing vendors. I just dont want to either troll the forums 15 hours a day for people either trying to buy something similar to my item. Or having to bump my "WTS" post every 10 minutes cause by the time I tab back into the game its already 5 pages back.

AHs have worked in every single MMO out there. All of a sudden D3 comes out and the anti AH lynch mob is out in full force. AHs have been working just fine for the last 10 years with no complaints I dont see how one game can all of a sudden make everyone hate them.

Trade chat is useless. The pool of players in there is so ridiculously small that the odds of having someone in there buying what you have is a waste of time. Every time I've tried to look for new gear, or sell gear, all I've seen in trade is the same 5 people spamming the same items.

The act of trading isn't even social. Players have already devolved the language into acronyms and short hand abbrieviations. Every step towards the future moves trading towards a more efficient form of itself--that is, players talk less. The equivalent would be to take flash cards to a flea market and having (WTS, WTB, All currency cards) and pointing to each object and using the cards.

The greatest joke is the suggestion to use the trading forum--which more or less is a manual auction house. But, suggest an auction house and you'll have a thread so heavily flamed it'll be locked within three hours. There are ways to prevent what happened in D3 in POE. And, to be clear, the biggest problem with D3 wasn't even the players; the problem was always the bots. (See: multiboxing threads and fears of inflation). Regardless of whether or not you believe me, having an auction house that:

Is only functioning while the account is online (and not afk),
With a limit of two items,
That has a comment section rather than a starting bid (ex: "Looking for 2 ~chaos or good bow for level 35ish),
Gives the seller the OPTION to let bidders post comments with their bids (a counter offer/explanation)
That lets bidders post ANYTHING (currency, or gear)
THEN lets the seller accept any offer given within two hours (a short time!)

wont have any of the problems that everyone screams about on the forums. And, if anyone thinks that they'll lose the "social" aspect of the game I ask you to "conversate" in trade chat--you get muted for it. Trading isn't social by their own rules! I assure you, that with a two item limit that MANY people will use both the "AH" and $trade because they want to sell so many items. But, players like me and the OP who just want to actually sell something and play POE (rather than playing $trade) can, and much easier.

Ugh, sorry for the AH rant. Seriously though, everytime someone bashes an AH and suggests using a forum instead I have to go kill a kitten.

TL:DR
Spoiler
Trading in POE isn't a social event. It's a hassle for people that want to play the game with limited time and turns an evening play session to a choice: trade or play the game.

Ya this man is right.

I miss the D2 days where you popped in and said "WUG" and then actually bartered. The trading system now is basically just a bad auction house honestly.

I don't know how the forum trading system is going to work when the implement it, but I hope it's good. I'm still for a Bazaar though, a big zone where you run around and trade with people.

This is not an MMO, this is an ARPG. The entire end game is finding loots, if obtaining upgraded loot is easy there is no point to the game, this is why it failed in D3 and that is why they will not add one here. Having to grind for your own items and not taking 30 seconds to just upgrade everything is far superior. If you can just insta buy/sell whatever you want you will always outgear the content and be on the forums crying how bad drops are because you never find an upgrade because you already bought the exact item you needed.

Yeah because spending hours trying to find someone online with what you want is so fucking cool and fun I wanna do it every single day.

- needed a bloodmagic
- typed in tradechat WTB Bloodmagic
- 5 Seconds later I had a Bloodmagic

Duno works for me fine on HC. Just something to think about: Maybe no one wants to sell this items that you are searching for. I read so many times that people searching for specific item stats and I have some of them but damn I will not sell them. Because I will need them for a Mule or if my Main dies. I know this Idea is really abstract but think about it. And you can just search all Forum Shops easy with a Search engine, there is at least 1 out.

ps: In Germany there is a service called SMS Guru. You can write them a SMS and they will answer every questions. Are this boobs real? Is 1+1=2 real or just a myth? And they for sure tell you who is selling the item you need :)

Why do you even compare gems with items? Of course if you want to buy particular gem you will get it in no time, because everyone want to sell and only a few buy.
Bullshit makes the flowers grow
if you want to fix trade chat simple fix limit the amount of items you can post on trade chat per day like 40 items only the brainless morons will get the picture real fast

now fixing the problem with item pricing that is another story
