Exp Loss is freaking unbalanced
Xp loss is fine....and should not be changed.
If you die to much, you need to rethink your spec and/or play smarter/better. If players can reach level 94 without dying so can you. If you make a bad play and get killed, that xp penalty will teach you not to do it again. Stop complaining and stop making these threads. I got cocky and decided to be a hero in a retarded hard 74 map, died twice, lost a days worth of xp. You know what, it sucks but I wouldn't have it any other way. Learn to play, there needs to be punishment in the game for bad specs and bad playing. END OF STORY Don't like it? This arpg is not meant to be faceroll and if you want faceroll, there's a wealth of other games out there. Sorry to be blunt but this game must not get dumbed down like its competition. Also GGG has already stated this is not something they will change, so these threads are pointless. Game is designed to be a little more hardcore then others. It's part of the mission statement. " We'll see about this :) EVERYTHING changes. Mission statements are empty words. What really talks is the money. And nobody wants to dumb the game. Oh YOU will feel it is dumbed down? Sorry about you. Other few thousands would actually appreciate the changes. So let's give it time, let's say a few months, 5-6 or so, let the feedback accumulate through the roof, and we will see then. GGG is a business, and it must conform to exactly the things that make other businesses run. If they have wanted a "club HP/tanks" game, they would have open some private online gentleman club, yet they needed to open up the game to all the noobs that can write an email down. Time will tell :) placeholder for creative sig Last edited by Undon3#5633 on Apr 1, 2013, 1:58:16 PM

" Go check the thread in GD... the majority feel the XP penalty is fine or should be more harsh. You do not speak for the majority of the community. You speak on behalf of the butthurt minority. GGG is a business, and hopefully one the is intelligent enough to not listen to the few very vocal complainers. Last edited by thepmrc#0256 on Apr 1, 2013, 2:07:35 PM

Prove it is a minority. I challenge you to sustain your claims with facts and hard data.
And my butt is fine, thanks. I'd appreciate if only women take interest in it from now on. Are you a hot chick? If yes, then it's all fine :) placeholder for creative sig Last edited by Undon3#5633 on Apr 1, 2013, 2:11:05 PM

" As I said, go check the poll in the general discussion forum, right now about 75% of the votes are for 'it is fine' or 'it should be steeper'. I don't need to prove it, the proof is in the fact that there are about 5-6 total people that consistently complain about the death penalty. If it was actually a majority of the community we would see massive amounts of DIFFERENT people complaining... like we do about the loot system. |

" Actually since GGG has already stated its not something they are willing to change, and the game is designed to be more hardcore then most, the onus is on YOU to prove the majority wants it changed. Secondly this game is not a club of HP/tanks. I have a great balance of awesome "tankyness" and awesome "DPS". Your complaining cause you can't stack pure offense and do a gazillion damage. Sorry man but you need balance and the xp ensures balance remains stable vs. crazy damage inflation. Again research your build and come up with something better. |

" Oh there will be many complaints from many people. Just give time for people with family&kids or extensive work schedules to reach the 80s. That's why I said it will take months. Even now, if a new poll would be made, the results would be different. It needs visibility though, because the average joe doesn't visit the forums, so it needs to be an ingame thing, everybody that is in Merciless should vote. I never even saw that poll, actually I took a quick look on the first page of GD and didn't see it even now. And I am doing just fine with my build :\ I didn't die in 3 levels, and since the mid 60s I don't know if I died 5 times. I'm not "complaining", I'm hardly affected by the XP penalty, I just find it stupid&ridiculous, not having anything to do with "hardcore". So I will always argue the penalty should be fair in a given difficulty (equal to a 65 or 85), not for its removal, BTW. A penalty needs to exist, but it needs to be reasonable and fair. placeholder for creative sig Last edited by Undon3#5633 on Apr 1, 2013, 2:30:55 PM

" The game was designed to be hardcore in all aspects. Not just hardcore league. The only thing that seperates hardcore league is the ranking competition. When you die you lose your rank and ur out of the league. Hardcore gives people a constant ability to competing for ranking on the ladder, where softcore you cannot. So to say u want nothing to do with hardcore has nothing to do with xp penalty. People who play hardcore do so to gain recognition from their ranks in the ladder, which is constantly recycled due to deaths. But the game as a WHOLE is hardcore. If people's character can't handle it they new to rebuild a better spec or play better. Also those who complain and whine are the ones who die a couple times and jump the gun instead of taking a minute to reflect on what happened to be better knowledgeable of the potential danger for next time. Knowledge comes with experience. I don't die anymore because I know how to spot most dangers before they happen. Last edited by AthenaUS#7001 on Apr 1, 2013, 2:43:46 PM

" Oh obviously, you must be right since you said so. How could I be so stupid to think that you could be wrong? If you couldn't find it then you did not look. It has been on the first page for weeks and has around 20 pages of posts... FYI family&kids typically wont ever reach the 80s... kids shouldn't even be playing this game. I have several friends with families, I work a full time job and I play in a band as well, this does not mean that we feel the game should be made easier. I love that leveling up is a more and more exciting thing everytime, and continually feels further and further out of reach... I LOVE IT! It makes each level up much more meaningful and rewarding to get. Last edited by thepmrc#0256 on Apr 1, 2013, 2:45:01 PM

" Indeed, much in life is subjective. Is there a point lurking here? Because I cannot find one. I think it would be obvious to anyone that an arbitrarily chosen value is one that is selected based on personal preferences. So. What objective outcome do you want the death penalty to actually achieve? If the objective outcome that you want it to achieve is "utter brick wall to maximum leveling if you experience even 1 death a week," then doing it your way is clearly the right answer. If the objective outcome you want to achieve is "incent players into careful game play with sensible builds," your answer is far more than is needed to achieve that. There is also another problem with your method: capriciousness. Desync, real life distractions, and the purely twitchy bitch that is online play, these all conspire to be potentially extremely punishing and unfun. In particular, this is why I cannot be so much as tempted to even try online HC experience. Which is another thing. Your way smells to much like HC to me as you level. I don't like it. Yes, that's a personal opinion. Note that I am not against the XP penalty. I am, however, wholly against it scaling the way it does. If it's business purpose is to keep players interested until GGG releases A4, I suspect that this won't work as intended. --C |
