Haven't read much in this thread since I left it. Posting again because I remembered how it has been suggested that people in this game like to zerg the difficult parts. Here is my opinion on zerging....

Zerging is taking on an area or boss knowing that you will die and that being part of your strategy to complete it.

I don't really think there are many people doing that in Path of Exile. What I see people doing is they know that they might die when at a certain area or boss so they finish out their leveling before taking it on. IMO that is not zerging, its just playing smart. That player is still capable of taking the area/boss on without dieing but knows that it is possible so he wisely finishes leveling first.

I think the above scenerio is far more common than a player purposefully dieing over and over again as part of their strategy because they know they CAN'T possibly complete it without dieing.

If thats your definition of zerging than it wasn't any more apparent in games like D3 either

I don't know of any game that you can do that with. Not Diablo, not WoW, not any game at all.

Dunno about Diablo, but WoW smartly resets the encounter if you die, and you are also unable to play the portal game in it "shit I'll portal to town now to fill flasks&health&mana, brb Piety, hold on, don't heal yourself KK?".

PoE allows by design such cheesy mechanisms. I used them myself with Cruel Vaal, 15-20 portal scrolls used, no deaths.

Take the cheese out of PoE, and don't allow these crap methods, and you won't have anybody death-zerging anything, because, well, it won't be possible.

Then, there would be absolutely no reasons for anybody to fear death-zerging any longer, and it couldn't be even mentioned in a debate about the XP penalty any more, because on death, you'd reset to some default location and have to start over, do the boss in one take successfully, or die again, reset again, and hopefully learn something from your mistakes.

The only time I ever brought up D3 zerging was when the game was new and people did actually zerg to get to Diablo.

Are people just making up game terms nowadays?

Zerging... WTF.

Zerg: alien race that is dangerous due to it's incredible amount of numbers.

Zerg rush: a strategy in Starcraft where you run straight at your enemy at the start with very few forces. This worked because early game zerg had the best units.

"To zerg" - verb: To do something with huge numbers to remove any skill required.

You cant "zerg" in a game with limited party members. "zerging" diablo... it's called rushing, not zerging. Rushing = doing something fast (hence zerg rush: attack right at the start).

Stop making up pointless words that do nothing but add flavour to something that already exists. All you do is creating terminology that makes you look idiotic.

Gaise.... obviously his problem with 30% exp in 10h is that he's using voidhome

Chill out, dude... this is the Internet. The term is flexible. Let me show you another definition:

"
Zerging in WoW is a term that now means attacking an enemy (or a group of enemies) with a far bigger group of weaker units (or, alternatively, to keep resurrecting and running back to the fight, creating the illusion of an endless number of units). The word is derived from the Zergling rush strategy in StarCraft (also a race in Starcraft).

Why the hell should I be forced to use strategy and grinding (the cornerstone of any shitty ARPG IMO) when I can just keep using portals to go back over and over and over again to try and whittle down a pack or a boss or clear a map my toon is clearly not ready for?

Do you hear yourself?
Whaaat? Stratery in the mindless grinding game? The purpose of the game is to kill myriad of monsters and get loot, roll loot, orbs and that shit. I want to rest while playing the game because, surprise surprise, this is game about GRIND. If i would ever want to play strategy i would play it. That kind of games are different, they don't require to play 10 hours straight, but less than an hour with max attention. POE is a game about GRIND.
lol... more proof you have no idea about ARPG's undon... go play diablo 1 & 2, torchlight etc.

Comparing certain aspects of wow to this game... well I suppose are okay. But in too many ways to count WoW and any ARPG are very, very, VERY different.

Again, you seem to be a smart guy... you just have no idea what you're talking about.

Remember my "cheeks" comment? You're still doing it /sigh

Thats funny, because the aRPG's you just mentioned have an much much much more lenient death penalty than PoE
