There will never be a common ground as long as you feel that default league should essentially be a scrubcore league where you can die left and right and continue to progress.
Are you seriously bragging about playing a league where the continued existence of your character is based on your ability to ascertain which keys of your Cheeto-dust covered keyboard are "alt" and "f4?"

I've never alt-f4'd, I'm too slow and clumsy on my keyboard lol (not something I'm proud of :). I have however lost many toons in HC (to my own stupidity and desync etc). I just reroll and keep on trucking.
Being friends with kerkrom has taught me that even the best among us can die in HC (lvl 94 RIP buddy), now he's back at it again reaching for that #1 spot.

first, I don't play hardcore in this game because it doesn't exist. The hardcore league in this game is a joke imho as the characters are not deleted when they die. As for your comments on Alt + F4... if it is really that easy go make a HC character, use your alt + F4 strategy when it gets difficult and see where you end up (hint: it wont be HC).
Second, at no point was I bragging. I was simply stating the fact that as long as you people feel that default should be played like a glass cannon scrubfest we will NEVER see eye to eye. I play default and I want it to be challenging.
Third, if you don't like to lose XP when you die, try harder. Its that simple. Don't whine about how bad you are and how you can't progress because the game mechanics are broken. Get better, try again, or GTFO

Well it works. My friend is playing 80 level HC and alt+f4 works wonders.

Hope he keeps relying on it, he will be dead soon. 'esc to login' is instant, alt + f4 is not. Not like its actually relevant to the actual discussion anyway. Do either of you trolls have anything meaningful to add the discussion of the death penalty? No? I thought not. keep trolling.

The vast majority of people who play this game aren't no-life neckbeards. They aren't interested in spending a week working on going up one level, only to lose an entire day's worth of progress in one death. The game can't be too easy but your idea of challenging is impossible for the average person. For the sake of normal players, do us a favor and go back to your hugbox.

I am not really that hardcore of a gamer anymore myself, but I enjoy challenging and grindy games. If a player is not interested in grinding to attain higher levels then they need to roll an alt, maybe work on pvp, or simply step away from the game because this IS a grindy game and it will always be a grindy game. It is meant to take a long time to level. Even if you don't die it will take you a week to level playing a decent amount a day in the mid 80's. If the 'average' player cannot avoid dieing then they will hit a soft level cap in the early 80s and need to do something else, however if the average player doesn't want to grind in the first place they are going to hit that wall regardless of the death penalty.
In summation. If you don't want to spend a week working on going up one level then PoE is not the game for you, at least not the end game grind. Regardless of XP penalty it is a MASSIVE grind. If you don't want to grind PoE is not for you.

You are the only troll here.An obvious one at that.
yes, obviously the guy who is actually discussing the topic at hand is a troll. Now go back to your cave, or try to find HC players to put down... whatever it is you enjoy.

If glasscannon builds are viable, then everyone plays glasscannon builds because farming faster is something everyone likes (which is not a bad thing on itself).
But this game has defensive mechanisms it wants to put to use (block, life, armor, es, ev), and in order for these mechanics to be viable, glasscannons need to be non-viable.
Glasscannons will never be viable in PoE, and i dont see GGG changing that for the simple reason that a game that focuses on defensive mechanisms, has higher itemization ceilings and is therefore more complex regarding its itemization system.
If glasscannons were viable, defensive stats on gear would be useless, thus creating/finding the best item ingame is much easier to accomplish (it is as easy as getting 2 affixes correct... instead of having to get all 6 mods correct).
D3 suffers from this problem a lot.
Back when D3 was hard (the first iteration of inferno) you had to make more complex item choices: do you get more allres/armour, or a little bit more damage because the encounters take too long (enrage timer).
After they nerfed everything into the ground and therefore made glasscannons viable, the itemization process has lost all of its complexity.
After the inferno nerf, the itemization process boils down to: get damage, critchance, critdmg, attackspeed, preferrably all of them, and since only getting damage on items is very easy, everyone runs around with pretty godly gear rather fast.
Reducing the complexity of an Arpg is a terrible move, and making glass cannons viable is such a move. I dont see it happening, since GGG knows whats up.
Read your post, disagree with it, there's more to RPGs than ARPG and Diablo and then PoE, but I have no desire to continue the offtopic thing, or even to argue for it in a dedicated topic I could open any time, yet I am not opening it...
Just posting to let you know I read your opinion :)
What he is saying about D3 is not opinion. It is fact. The game is such a glass cannon fest that they nerfed reflect damage due to all the whiners on the forums complaining that they did WAY too much damage when in actuality it was simply that those players stacked too much damage without suitable survivability. What the game actually needed was MORE things like reflect damage to actually balance DPS and survivability. This, and the lack of a real death penalty, is why the only way to play D3 is Hardcore
If a glass cannon build is viable, in a game like poe, it will be the most efficient way to play. Higher damage = higher clearing speeds = faster xp = more drops = pure efficiency. In poe EVERY character has to devise a strategy for staying alive. This means you cannot mindlessly stack damage and succeed (unlike D3). This is a very very good thing for itemization and build diversity in general. You feel diversity is lacking because you cannot build a glass cannon, I feel the exact opposite. If we were able to build viable glass cannons then there would be zero build diversity.
Nobody bothered to read the parts where I explained that glass cannons should have their own defensive mechanisms, and if they don't spec accordingly for them, it would be a death fest. In a properly implemented system, you would HAVE to take your own defensive stuff, so you wouldn't end up with enormous crit and damage etc. If D3 is like this, it's a bad implementation of glass cannon.
And it is all about balancing. You would see that you would not be able to faceroll, but have to constantly do stuff like kiting, fading, dodging and blinking around the map and so on, your clear speed is basically the same as that of a tank who can go at it directly.
But you could bet that balancing infinite builds would be near impossible for GGG. It's a hole they dug for themselves... This doesn't make the situation less crappy for people like me who hate tank builds.
