Can we stop pretending that Path of Exile is free to play?

i had multiple exalts on stash and multiple exalts worth of gear being used by 2 of my chars in delve league and i only have 4 stash tabs

Nothing is for free. Everything costs time or resources, if nothing else there are opportunity costs. If you come to terms and accept the fact nothing is for free, you should eventually also accept the fact you will want to spend certain amount of money to appreciate work done by development team or improve your gaming experience. This is exactly where Path of Exile is--it is free to try.

I have actually paid to get into closed beta so technically this game was never free to play for me. I have also for a long time only bought stash tabs because I felt MTX did not helped me at all to enjoy the game more. Ultimately, I have now spent over $200 on the game. I still consider this game one of the best investments ever since I have over 5000 hours in this game. There is no other computer game, table-top, card game or any other piece of entertainment that even comes close to ROI for Path of Exile.

Whether you call the game free to play or free to try, I do not care nor should you. All you have to ask yourself and be honest when you answer it is whether the amount of money you put in are returned back to you in form of fun and enjoyable experience.

but the guy without tabs and the guy with tabs play the same game.

As someone who just bought a couple tabs for the first time (and just a currency and an extra tab to hold me over until the next sale), it's absolutely not the same game.


Being able to play for more than a couple map runs without having to change currency from someone's bot, or being able to store a couple extra pieces for chaos turnins, or being able to hold a few items for sale, and a few of each item to work towards their currency trade-in, or not having to immediately vendor things that arent guaranteed instant sellers is a completely different experience than 4 stash tabs.


The game literally feelt unplayable at cap without extra tabs, and I cant imagine what it would be like if I cared much for selling stuff, or holding good craft bases, or didnt keep only 1-2 of each meta part type, or sacrifice at whatever, or any essences under the max level.

I agree only because of one thing, the base stash tabs you get do not have the ability to become sellable. So even if you try to be efficient with your storage, you are doomed to try sell items manually in trade chat and selling items is the only real way to progress in this game. Unless of course you buy currency with real money via those sites....LOL

Seriously though, even with the above stated, PoE is one of the best games of all time and its free...why not help your gaming situation by spending a few bucks on some stash tabs? Why not help support a company that has given us so much and improve your QoL at the same time?

You realize the option to set stash tab to public and sell items through it was added just recently, right? People were using forum threads to sell items before this for very long time. We also used 3rd party programs to automate this to some extent until GGG finally moved their asses and made some improvements to stash tabs.

Do I believe normal stash tabs should be able to be set to public view? Yes, I do.

I'm holding all of the essences, most of the div cards I get, multiple jewelry sets for chaos recipe, good bases and uniques, and every sacrifice fragment I get with only four tabs. With some room to spare still.

That is just a completely ridiculous statement to make.

Oh yeah exactly. Which is why noone has killed Awakener in any soloselffound league yet... oh... wait... no. Besides, you can make a forum post to sell your stuff and you can use a tool called Acquisition.

This game is Free To Play.

It isn't:
-Free to prosper as everyone else
-Free to have a convenience as everyone else

or whatever fallacies you come up with next
