Can we stop pretending that Path of Exile is free to play?
" I wanted to ask this for some time. Is the P2W concept applicable outside of PvP? |

" Apparently it is, because "Pay to win" does (apparently) not mean "pay to win", but (apparently) "pay for advantages". And (apparently), a lot of stash tabs is getting an "advantage" on other people. Probably because (apparently), this whole game is about getting richer than the next guy. Apparently. " The shorter answer is no lol. Longer below. People define "winning" in all sorts of bizzare ways. Like global market domination, or making to red maps, or killing UE, making to 100, on and on. In point of fact, stash tabs, which is the only thing that could even be considered even remotely P2W (its isnt), doesnt make your build better, doesnt help you understand mechanics, doesn't maximize your passive tree, doesnt give you crafting tips, doesnt help you what items are desirable when you see them. It doesnt even save time really. Every player has their own pace. For example if I rush a map, and dont pick anything up, did I win? Win what? It makes zero sense. Hoarding or stockpiling isnt "winning" Seriously bizzare is the best description for those that think tabs are P2W in a PvE game. THERE IS NOTHING OBJECTIVE TO WIN. AT ALL. " It does save time for people staying idle in their hideout, whining about how P2W stash tabs are. BTW, I agree with you (if you didn't get that from my apparently-post) ANYHOW! To stay on topic; even IF you considered stash tabs "pay to win", it wouldn't make Path of Exile any less "free to play". Less "ProjectPT-ethical"? Maybe. Worse F2P model? Undoubtedly. But still "free to play". Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

or go to work and use your money to buy things, not your mother's money, then maybe you understand what would be free or not

" Doesn't matter how rich some people are in real life. The moment they read the magic three words "free to play", some people refuse to spend a dime. Because "hey, it's free", like it's some kind of charity. Disclaimer: No, this does not apply to everyone choosing to not spend money. Yes, every F2P games need the player count that non-paying costumers bring. That's why I used the word "some". Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Albion online was f2p but f2p players earned half the xp paid players did.
PoE is f2p but f2p players are severely hindered in being able to access all content. It's not really free. GGG / Tencent will continue calling it free. --
I don't have alpha access, that was a LONG time ago. |

" Yes, if you choose your definition of "free to play" accordingly, you can argue that it is indeed not free to play. Bird lover of Wraeclast
