Can we stop pretending that Path of Exile is free to play?

I don't feel sorry for people that can't pay GGG very much or nothing. People that provide little financial support to GGG should be very pleased and happy that they get to play such a great game while only having to pay a little.

I don't blame GGG for always coming up with new mechanisms to use up inventory space. They are just trying to run a business.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

Well said
17 pages of entitled kids arguing whether free game in which they dont get everything for free is actually free.
LMAO.
It is F2P.

But, the real question is if you think Pay for Convenience is as bad, or similar, to Pay to Win. I even believe at times, Pay for Convenience can be even more predatory than P2W. I personally even consider it P2W in some aspects, but I know some will and some won't.

I personally would not consider PoE's F2p one of the better ones out there. I think there are much better F2p systems. Warframe, League of Legends, Dota, etc. all much better systems than PoE's. I feel PoE's started off quite good, but over 7 years, its gotten pretty predatory, IMO, and isn't some bastion of light in the F2p world as it used to be.

But the game is still F2p.
For those bitching and complaining about the game not being "free", here is what I did, and it's a logical approach.

#1 I started off with the 4 tabs, after playing it for a few days,I realized how much fun I was having, so I want to reward the developers so help the feed their families and pay their bills.

#2 I don't give a shit about cosmetic stuff. I can careless how my character looks. And besides, one needs to prioritize. What's more important, how your character looks? or gameplay? Many of my friends that play online love to buy micro transactions for appearance, and that's fine for them, but it's not my thing..... My point being is that those who are complaining, shouldn't even be focusing on looks right away, focus on gameplay.

#3, with #2 above in mind, since I don't care about cosmetic shit, I told myself that I was having fun and the developers deserve some of my $$$.....So I spent about 25$ in stash tabs, and that made the game even still better yet!!

#4, the next year I bought a couple of more stash tabs(all done during sales). I think I was around $40.00 to $50.00..........

Conclusion, after spending $50.00, I now have a game that's been playable for several years....How is this any different than going online or to Target and buying a PS 4 game for $40.00 or $50.00 that's probably going to give you much hours less in gameplay? People are so cheap, is' ridiculous.... Are you the same people who walk to the Target Counter with a PS4 game in hand and asking, "why isn't this free to play?"

If one can't afford to fork out $50.00 over 2 years to play this amazing game, then one shouldn't even be playing POE and instead focusing on getting a better job......

Of course they're cheap.

Some people read "F2P", and go into the game with the attitude: "This game is F2P, so I shouldn't have to pay anything", while they demand the same experience as paying costumers - because the game is "free". The game isn't free, it's "F2P". Learn the difference.

"GGG/PoE doesn't deserve my money", while they have spent 2000 hours on this game. It's almost kinda cute... Kinda...

Exactly Phrazz!! You nailed it!!!

When are people going to get it through their heads that it IS FREE to play.
It's not as if it asked for their credit card before they played....

I played it for about 50 hours FREE and then I decided that I liked it so much that I wanted to upgrade my playing experience and thus forked $$$ for additional stash tabs.....

If I was GGG, I would have them change their verbiage to please the whining idiots to "Free to Try"..... But ya know, that wouldn't work, because THEN you know that they would find something else to complain about, because that's what they do...

The funniest thing is when people go to F2P game and expect to be able to get everything for free, but when they actually find such game they call it P2W, because the only way(that makes sense) to make F2P game in which you can get everything for free is to allow players sell things from cash shop for in-game money.

I don't think anyone is arguing the game should be free here, that s simply not the point of the topic. However, if the game were to be buy to play, maybe there wouldn't be as much inventory clutter as there is now. As it stands, maybe more than 99 % of the dropped items are actually inventory clutter and it doesn't feel good, even as a paying customer with stashes.

The point of the topic is "F2P". No one can argue on the fact that PoE is "F2P". It's simply a fact. Does the game encourage you to pay? Of course. Does your enjoyment of the game increase by paying? Sure, like most F2P games.

Going with the F2P model, you have a choice. You CAN play the whole game for free - if you want. You CAN pay a little bit to increase your enjoyment. But no matter how you spin it, it's still a choice. Maybe someone FEELS like they don't have a choice, but that does not change the fact that you do.

When you see all these cheap people in here, arguing like madmen about $3-$10, do you actually think P2P would be a better business model? Hell, I don't know. Maybe. I think a lot of this... "Cheapness" comes from people reading "F2P" and demand not spending a dime.

That's cheap people. Broke people, on the other hand? That's OK. Not all people, especially in certain parts of the world, can afford those $3-$10. Do they still have a chance to play the game? Yes. They wouldn't if the game was P2P.

No, this whole debate is based off of some stupid, chemical reaction in people's brain when they read "F2P", and this entitlement of having everything for free gets created.
