"Deepest Item System In Any Action RPG" RLY?
OP just lacks imagination, I see a lot of room for experimentation. So much that I'll never have the time to try all the builds I theorycrafted. It could be better of course, but I've never seen better.

" "Item system" I skipped a few posts, but I am assuming that the OP is talking about just the items and not skills. And there is very little customization in the items. Maybe not significantly less than any other compareable game, but there is still no customization to talk about. I guess it's the "deepest item system" because you have all skills included in that. |

Very good thread and the op makes some very good points.... although some people take it personally, its criticism like this that can move the game forward, not "yes men".
RNG is always at work in any mmo (and most arpg) just in different ways. In d2 the main items that were desirable were obtained from farming, not gambling or crafting. What you ended up with was an economy that was based around super rare and universally desirable items that needed to be farmed like soj and runes. Nobody used rare type equipment outside of vanilla D2, it was all uniques and runewords. This is imo, intentional for several reasons. First off if you could control your crafting system like you do in Median Xl (in d2 controlling crafting is pointless because in 99% of cases its not even mid game level gear) then it would be too easy to get exactly the mods you want and all of those items would become worthless. In this case items like Kaoms Heart etc would become the currency, just like d2. Second reason is that the currency system is universally balanced. In d2, even if you did not use soj's or runes in your build, they were still the currency you had to strive for. In Poe every single build can benefit from nearly all types of currency also making it all very valuable, self balancing, dynamic etc. As for the future, I think they are going to go the route that Blizzard and other successful mmo creators usually take. Starting off with a solid foundation/system and slowly adding more and balancing it as they go, instead of adding 132987348 different mods/skills/features and having a result that is impossible to balance. I see you mention MedianXl and imo it is the god tier of itemisation, But it is also balanced for single player. Any real MMO needs some insane RNG factor to give longevity |

Since you've brought up D2 LoD, comparing to it's crafting system, and yes i do get your intense arugment. But your argument has a false premise, it is a crafting system which used by a majority of player in D2 LOD : SAID NO ONE EVER.
Seriously? After lv60 or so, you still need to use its' crafting system whilst you can find rune words/recipe/sets/better uniques. So again, yes D2 LoD does have a crafting system which is non-RNG like you ranting about in this game. However a good crafting system must be used widly by most of players in game, which "IMO" D2 LoD failed to deliver. In the end of the day, those items you've crafted through so called crafting system must be compared with the end-game gears, or else no one would ever ever ever use it. Before the end game where crafting system could be handy? sorry, I don't see it's necessary. Here's a redux for you, If you can reach those end-game gears via crafting system and it's not with too much RNG factor in it. I say a 3-year-old would tell you that's insane. (I'd say it must have been thought by the DEVs, since it's a rahter easy logic thinking) But feel free to prive otherwise, since I just don't play too many games other than D2, PoE, Torchlight. "Also we have mentra 'there is no customization in D2, everyne runs STR for items and VIT and with Enigma"... and that is complete bullshit."
Hnng. Hnnnngg. Are you dense? That WAS all any character did back in D2. You ran stats for your gear, and then vitality all the way. (just had to get that out of the way) Now on to your point. About the item system,I agree on some points. Aka the enchanting and socketing thing. It would be nice to, after getting your weapon to rare + all wanted skill sockets, upgrade it further via a quest or a map or something. And hell charms would be nice too (But they'd REALLY have to be limited or else you'd be OP as all hell) But some of these points: Item tiers: They still have ilvl 80+ to go, where they can easily add 2 to 4 tiers per weapon/armor. Item Sets: Mixed feelings about this. It's great to have both general good item sets and item sets that enable specific builds, but I already feel that uniques do that, so unless they're generally good item sets, then I don't see it happening. CtC: Since BrotherLaz is on the team, I have NO doubt in my mind this will be implemented later. Probably in weak uniques, and very high level items. You're analyzing the game when it's still early. It still has a few acts to go, and those content patches will probably bring ALOT more affixes. Just be patient. |

OP might be confusing "deepest" with "has more stuff". depth is not quantity.
EDIT: poe has one system, not many. but it is far deeper than any one of the shallow systems that exist in other games, even if those other games, as stated by OP, have more than one of those systems in each the path that can be chosen is not the correct path to choose. such is the nature of the Dao. " If the OP has no intention of discussing the points they raised, then I can only conclude the thread has lost its purpose. If it ever had one. Here's my advice to you, OP: don't dismiss anyone disagreeing with you as a 'fanboy'. If you want to have meaningful dialogue and generate a real conversation, you need to accept people have different points of view to you. This is something most of us learn well before reaching adulthood. With how you insulted anyone answering who didn't agree with you, I wouldn't take you seriously either. And you're asking the devs to answer when you cannot even treat other players with any respect? Work on those basic communication skills, construct a coherent, balanced argument that doesn't immediately assume it's 100% correct and try again, please. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Mar 19, 2013, 3:34:53 AM
