Updated Vulkan Workaround for DX11 crashes
thanks to Svazzz for discovering the workaround Use on your own risk Might not work for everyone (but lot of users are reporting fixed crashes) Should also work for Nvidia (if you somehow got there :) 1) Reboot computer if you have already crashed and did not reboot yet. 2) Set windowed fullscreen or windowed mode in game before applying following steps, then quit the game and: 3) Download dx->vulkan translation layer https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/download/v1.5/dxvk-1.5.tar.gz 4) Unpack d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll files from x64 (or x32 if you run 32bit windows) directory into Path of exile directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile or \Steam\steamapps\common\Path of exile (or whatever steam uses). Note, .tar.gz is native Linux archive format but almost any normal archive manager should be able to handle it. 5) (Optional, might work better for some poeple) To disable shader caching: for steam version: right click path of exile -> properties -> set launch options and enter DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0 %command% --waitforpreload for non-steam version Create start.bat file in game directory with following 3 lines:
start.bat
@echo off set DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0 start PathOfExile.exe --waitforpreload 6) Non-steam - launch the game by executing the start.bat if 5) applied otherwise launch as usual, steam users launch the game as usual -1) To revert the workaround, simply delete the the copied files from the game directory. and in case of steam, also delete everything from launch settings. video proof on Old fields (I had 100% crash rate at this location before): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCdlDjO6tNM Showcasing the vulkan performance on Dried Fields A4 - visited for first time so you have better idea what to expect (5700XT, ryzen7 3600x, 32GB ram) (dont mind the HUD) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW4vpjiPYmE Note: While performance should be improved compared to original workaround, but there still will be some stutters therefore this is not recommended for HC players as they can be deadly :) Changelog: - Updated the instructions and use different dxvk fork for which has some game optimization and should fix running out of memory during extended gameplay. Edit updated step 5: - shader caching is no-go for some poeple and doing more harm then good. step 5 provides step of disabling it - got rid of --gc 2, not needed as there should be no memory leak in this version of dxvk Last edited by julus#1066 on Dec 17, 2019, 4:26:34 PM

The problem with game crash after TANE OCTAVIOUS autospawn or spawning him manually in several locations (for example ACT 4 The Dried Lake). After testing several versions of AMD drivers, on version 19.1.1 of 01.11.2019 the game started to work properly. So far, no crashes can be seen. I hope it will also help other AMD owners.

" Is there any chance you can try to spawn Tane in a Courtyard Map and post the results? |

Is there anyway these are CPU issues or does it strictly seem to be an AMD R9 or 5700 issue? I was about to purchase a new GPU to upgrade my R9 200 series but now I am not sure since it seems to be happening to a lot of people.

AMD 3700X CPU
5700XT GPU Crashes almost every time Tane decides to spawn, moreso since last patch. I MEAN, I GUESS I COULD WORK? |

" Hmm.. unfortunately it is quite choppy for R9 280x to handle ಥ_ಥ |

" Sorry to hear that, try without step 5 (or with it if you applied it). Anyway the majority of choppiness should fade off within first few minutes in game Last edited by julus#1066 on Dec 17, 2019, 3:59:56 PM

" What we read the last Days let's us think it might be GPU-focussed. We had nearly all modern CPUs here, but what was the constant factor on like 80% was the 5700 xt and among it alot other GPUs by AMD. There still are Users crashing with nvidia GPUs. |

" Just tested, everything works fine on Courtyard map. |
