4.0 expectations

Hello.

I just wonder what your expectations are for 4.0? Both realistic and hopes.

I have only played this game a lot the last year. I have noe clue what a big patch like 3.0 changed, what to expect and look forward to.

Sorry if this has been asked before, i just could not find a thread like this.

realistic:
another brainless powerbuff.

hopes:
revert powerbuff
made game more interesting than 1hit 99% of mobs
Realistic: another reskin of old content, same maps just shuffle tiers. Rip all previous fun builds. More bugs and drop of stability, league unplayable first month again.

Hopes: New realms to explore. Alternative lvling to acts to those who done story 10+ times already both league and std. New cool skills viable and scalable far more than acts. Revive of old skills. Make Delve great again. Revive of leaguestones or make scarabs more like leaguestones. 2+ lines of tabs in stash, autosort and option to autosend at least currency, maps, essences, div.cards and fragments from dump tab to dedicated tabs.

Better animations which in turn makes the combat more fun (think D3 combat, maybe even better).

Saying goodbye to Wraeclast.

Maybe a couple of ingame cutscenes. They're pretty dope in Wolcen.

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
It will make the game harder and slower, you'll actually need more expensive, min-maxed gear to progress in the end game, no more 10c builds that one shot and explode everything up to T16 and uber elder.
More chase items, that make you want to grind more.

but that's not realistic at all...

PoE is currently on a crossroads. In terms of graphics, it looks like a Diablo 2 clone. Probably the game engine is also very similar to the production of Blizzard, on which GGG modeled almost to the limits of plagiarism. When it comes to gampelay, currently the game is a shooter-looter operating on the same principle as various "space" shoters on Android, combined with an economic simulator and a casino simulator.

The financial model of the game has gone from relying on the support of arpg fans and loyal supporters, who often gave GGG quite significant sums of money, to mass "playerbase shifting". So it looks like the "new" players are starting to play a game that in the "demo" version, i.e. the so-called “acts”, actually looks like an extensive arpg and direct successor to Diablo 2. Before these players realize that they are actually in the shooter-casino, they usually spend as much money in the game as they would spend on 2 or more AAA games. Then they become wise and leave or stop paying.

Unfortunately, such a system is a typical "robbery economy". It works great as long as there is a constant influx of new players - the "playerbase shifting" mentioned above. Such a state cannot last forever, as all the victims of the "financial pyramids" have found out. That's why Tencent now has two options. In the first of these, patch 4.0 completely changes and significantly enlarges the entire game world, but the entire "playerbase shifting" system remains unchanged.

Such a move should "extend the life" of the game by a maximum of 2 years from the patch 4.0 release. Then the game will fall apart, under the weight of a lack of optimization and build-up bugs that will appear every 3 months, with each subsequent league. Everything will be "too much". Too many mechanics, too many types of items, types of stash tabs ... It's enough to skip just one "league" to lose track of what has changed compared to already known knowledge. It will be a real horror for new players.

The second option is patch 4.0, which completely changes and significantly enlarges the entire game world and introduces a monthly subscription fee. In this case, any "extensions" could be introduced less frequently and the game would no longer have to rob the players of such a large amount of time. In addition, the quality of optimization and all new add-ons could increase. Only in this case the game could actually survive, but personally I do not believe that Tencent will decide on such a step. I think he will keep the current model in which the Chinese market brings real money and international players play the role of beta testers, paying for the opportunity to work for free for Tencent.
We'll know in about 5.5 weeks. Exilecon promises us a reveal. That pretty much means we're past the chance where any of our ideas will have an effect.

Hope they solve both the power creep problem and the bloat problem. I don't expect them too. I expect we'll get new character models since they started that but stopped well short of finishing it about the time they started hinting at 4.0.

I'd love to see a less linear progression through the acts, with a more open world feel.
A game that runs smoothly. No technical problems, no performance issues, a more fluid combat style and gameplay. If they can at least make it run as smooth as D3 does, then I'll take it.

Apart from that we need an enjoyable core game, which is fun without the leagues. Right now the game feels so damn boring and repetitive until you hit the maps, where you take care most of the league stuff.

Also this game needs so many QoL imrovements which includes a better trade system. But with all these dev manifests I'm starting lose hope. I'm actually more hopeful for D4 even if I hated D3.

More forum and chat restrictions, same buggy base game, overpriced MTX... a non QA'd launch and uh... more free time for a lot of us?

You couldn't be more wrong. When is the last time you've seen D2 graphics?
