So PoE Zombies are Feral Ghouls?
" It doesn't matter if it was made out of chicken McNuggets ™, it's still wrong and, depending on international treaties, actionable. "A Fair(y) Use Tale" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJn_jC4FNDo (An entertaining treatise on Copyright and other silly notions.) You can not take someone else's work and repackage and sell it as your own without the work's owner's permission. Now.. Someone brought up Tencent. Tencent is the biggest, richest, game company in the world. They own a majority interest (80%) of GGG. But, this is more than just some legal quandry. It's wrong. Some artist created that model for Fallout 3 and the developers then made a 2d image out of it for the wiki/something. Someone put some time and work-hours into creating this and that work was stolen and repackaged to make it appear as if it was an "original work." It is a "lie." Yes, it's just on teh interwebz... But, that doesn't mean it's any less wrong. It's possible that the person who did that didn't know they were doing A Bad Thing. OK, I get it. That happens. But, this is why coders and amateur artists ("Amateur", mind you.) get into trouble. An undergraduate business degree is generally worth its weight in carpet lint. However, first-year workers with an undergraduate degree in business are very cautious, if the stayed awake in class, when it comes down to various forms of intellectual property rights dilemmas. It's a hot topic, exciting, get them discussing all the possibilities that Company A could use to put Company B out of business... But, I guarantee GGG would get a bit miffed if it was made aware that portions of the code were "lovingly" inserted into another game and then that game was sold on the open market. This is the sort of thing that crops up when someone who isn't a professional in a field is given professional-level authority. It's why it's not uncommon that nobody has a heart-attack at the Brand New Startup Company run by coders and artists until they decide to hire an attorney and an accountant to finalize their application for incorporation... Disclaimer - I'm not an attorney. If you're taking free legal advice from people on teh intrawebz then you should probably not do whatever it is you're thinking about doing. Ever. |

An apology and correction are all that should come from this. It doesn't rise to the level of actionable.

There's a very good chance that both POE and Fallout 3 used the same stock, licensed model in each of their games, and nobody stole anything from anybody. This happens all the time. Unless there is some proof otherwise, this is much ado about nothing.
